The term “ship” in terms of anime is actually a shortened version of the word “relationship” and represents fan-based relationships between the characters in the series. So, if you think that two characters would be great as a couple, you’re “shipping” them together. As far as One Piece ships are concerned, one of the most often discussed characters in this category is Nico Robin, who is, incidentally, one of the most popular characters in the series as well. In this article, we have decided to explain to you whether Nico Robin had a love interest in the story and who she could end up with.

At this moment, Nico Robin does not have a love interest. Although she has been shipped with both Zoro and Franky (okay, and Sanji, but every good-looking female and their grandma has been shipped with Sanji), she doesn’t seem to be the romantic type and Eiichiro Oda seems to be in agreement with that interpretation, as it does not seem like he’s going to ship her with anyone soon.

The rest of this article will explore the potential relationships of Nico Robin, one of the most popular characters in the series. We will explore Nico Robin’s personality, as well as some of the most popular ships involving her and the characters seen in One Piece. This article won’t contain too many spoilers, but still, be careful how you approach it if you don’t know the whole story.

What is Nico Robin like?

Unlike the other crew members, Robin appears more serious and settled, with elegant and refined manners; however, she remains impressed by the cheerfulness and generosity of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew. In short, despite her initial diffidence, she integrates perfectly into the group. Although she appears cold and aloof, she is kind and selfless, not hesitating to sacrifice herself to protect her comrades.

Because of her past, she didn’t mind using and betraying people, and expressing her feelings was difficult. However, these attitudes change during the Enies Lobby events, where she screams in tears about wanting to live and asks her companions to save her. During the two-year time skip, her character softens further, taking on slightly more amused connotations. Robin has a somewhat macabre side and often points out crass or morbid facts, which usually cause Nami or Usopp’s disgust.

For example, she is always the first to speculate as to whether a crew member has met or will meet a horrific fate, often adding gruesome detail. In other cases, she expresses enthusiasm for something with a horror theme, like when she volunteers to explore Thriller Bark. She has a strong sense of decorum and pride, so much so that she refuses to participate in one of Franky’s plans against Oars because she thinks it is embarrassing, and she immediately asks not to be part of such plans ever again.

As an archaeologist, she is interested in history and wishes to discover the truth about the hundred years of the Void Century. She is also interested in the “D.” initial present in the surname of some individuals. She becomes enraged if someone were to destroy historical artifacts, so much so that when Yama damages the ruins of Shandora, Robin brutally defeats him in a fight. Despite being an archaeologist, thanks to her Devil Fruit powers and past, she is also a very skilled fighter and doesn’t hesitate to use force when necessary.

She doesn’t seem to be the romantic type, which Oda has constantly been reaffirming when she is concerned. She has a soft and caring side, but so far, it does not seem like Nico Robin will develop romantic feelings for anyone in the near future.

Who could Nico Robin end up with?

In this section, we are going to discuss some of the more probable ships involving Nico Robin:

Roronoa Zoro

Zoro was the only one on the team who didn’t trust Robin after the Alabasta Arc (he was the sole member she could not really bribe or “charm”). Later on, he demonstrates his willingness to defend her when she is at risk. He, for example, apprehended her as she was about to be killed by Enel and was the first to rush to her support when Aokiji confronted her.

During the Water 7 arc, he is still wary of her trust after hearing her alleged intent to kill Iceberg, but when he learns of his intended sacrifice for the team, he is completely dedicated to saving her. He has always enjoyed fighting, but while he was fighting Kaku, he stated that he could not do so due to the time constraint in obtaining the key to her handcuffs.

After the Enies Lobby Arc, Zoro began to trust Robin completely, and the two of them got along well with each other. According to Usopp, they always speak coldly, even if they say scary things. He began to show the same willingness to risk his life to protect her as with the rest of the team. Among the Straw Hats, Zoro and Robin are both the calmest and most serious in any situation.

Robin is also the sole member of the team who, because of their shared personalities, never irritates or angers Zoro. Robin was the one who stopped Zoro from exiting the bubble, which would have caused him to die from pressure, demonstrating her concern for him. In fact, two of Zoro’s most egregious displays of power, the Asura on Enies Lobby and the 1080-pound cannon on Dressrosa, directly responded to Robin’s safety.

Vinsmoke Sanji

As far as Sanji and Nico Robin are concerned, this seems to be a one-sided affair. Sanji is a typical simp character, and whenever he sees a good-looking female character, he will try simp over her. Since Nico Robin is one of the most beautiful One Piece characters, it is only natural that Sanji likes her. But, while Nico Robin does care for Sanji as a friend, he is simply too immature for her and is not her type in any way, which is why this ship doesn’t really have that much potential.

Franky

Franky and Nico Robin have a very close relationship. Franky has a lot of sympathy for Robin and her story and claims that her existence is not a crime under the World Government’s rules. Franky removed her handcuffs with the keys obtained by the Straw Hats while fighting the CP9 agents. They also beat Spandam together because they both despised him.

Robin was pivotal in helping the Straw Hat to convince Franky to join them by grabbing his groin, much to Franky’s chagrin. Franky is also the sole member of the team who can take Robin out, despite her being the calmest member, second only to Zoro, except when he is arguing with Sanji. During serious moments, she becomes irritated by Franky’s flippancy.

She, like Nami, appears oblivious to Franky’s ridiculous inventions. Robin was quite visibly annoyed when Franky made strange and obscene faces inside Chopper’s body (as she is very close to him). Like Usopp and Nami, Franky dislikes Robin’s strange habit of using harsh or frightening facts to suggest possible outcomes.
