Yellowjackets: Who Is Javi’s Friend? Why Doesn’t He Talk?

Last week’s episode of Yellowjackets brought us a shock as we learned that Javi did manage to survive for two months in the blistering cold with few resources. We were hoping that Javi would reveal the secret of his survival to the group in this week’s episode titled “Two Truths and a Lie,” but the episode left us empty-handed. We did learn, however, that Javi survived thanks to his “friend,” a she, and coach Ben even found a drawing related to her. Due to that, we’re asking ourselves, who is Javi’s friend, and why can’t he talk about it?

Javi’s friend is most likely the same Antler Queen that Natalie saw in her vision while undergoing hypnotic seance with Lottie and the same entity whose silhouette Lottie has seen on the floor. The nature of the Antler Queen, however, wasn’t revealed in an official sense but all of the evidence so far points in the supernatural direction.

Now that we’ve covered our theory regarding Javi’s friend, it’s time to analyze what we have learned so far. If you’re interested in more, stay with us and keep reading!

Javi is being tight-lipped regarding his survival

One of the biggest mysteries that started the second season of Yellowjackets was the question of whether Javi survived. To remind you, Javi spent two months alone in the winter forest with limited resources. Most of the group was convinced that Javi was dead, including Nat, who even planted some bloody clothes just so Travis would stop looking for him and stop endangering their hunting and gathering missions.

Lottie, however, from the start, knew that he was alive. She “felt it,” and during one panic-induced vision, Travis saw a tree stump surrounded by melted snow and greenery, which we know is highly unlikely in the glacial conditions unless there is some thermal presence underground.

Anyway, in episode 4 of Season 2, Taissa and Van managed to track down Javi accidentally while following the tress marked with strange Yellowjackets symbols. Javi was almost naked and utterly terrified of them. He initially ran away from them until Van and Taissa tackled him down and brought him back to the cabin.

When the rest of the group saw Javi, the initial shock was replaced by relief, and the relief gave rise to many questions. Those questions were left unanswered since Javi appears like he is catatonic most of the time, barely responding to any kind of outside stimuli except to keep himself alive.

What happened to him?

Javi met someone while in the forest; the question is who

Javi refuses to speak to anyone from the group, even his own brother. He keeps the mystery of his survival to himself, and yet, Coach Ben manages to pull something out of him.

While going through some things upstairs, Coach Ben ran into a pile of drawings, he picked up one of them, and it appeared to be a drawing of a tree with sprawling branches and roots. This is the moment that Javi walks into the room in says

She told me not to come back.”

Then coach Ben asks who told him not to come back, and Javi answers, “My friend.”

Javi never elaborated on it, but this doesn’t mean we can’t make some of our own theories about the mysterious female figure.

Who is Javi’s mysterious friend?

Javi’s mysterious friend is most likely the antler queen we keep seeing and the same entity that appeared in Natalie’s vision and as the silhouette that Lottie has seen on the floor.

Javi’s friend can both be a supernatural entity and a real person at the same time since we know, according to the maps created by coach Ben, Natalie, and now, Van and Taissa, that much of the surrounding forest is unexplored.

There could be other people living in the vicinity who are aware of the Yellowjackets but are afraid to make contact with them because resources are scarce as it is. Maybe the Antler Queen is not some kind of supernatural entity but rather some kind of the shamanistic leader of some other group of survivors.

Or, maybe Javi’s friend is truly the supernatural darkness that Natalie was talking about after her vision. Maybe Javi has a great purpose in that sense, just like Taissa and Lottie have.

Why is Javi so silent and refuses to talk?

There are two possible answers to these questions. Javi is either too traumatized to speak about what happened to him in the forest during the last two months. Or the second option, he swore to “his friend” that he would not reveal any information to the group. In any case, Javi, at this point, seems unlikely to reveal anything, but this is most likely going to change in the future.

The identity of Javi’s friend hasn’t been officially revealed. We can only hope for more info next week when Yellowjackets episode 6 of Season 2 airs.
