Heavenly Delusion: Who Is Tarao?
As fans will know, Heavenly Delusion is a very peculiar manga and anime series. It combines many known elements but still manages to create a uniquely special story that has succeeded in capturing the attention of fans worldwide. Aside from the plot itself, Heavenly Delusion also offers us a series of amazing characters, and in this article, we are going to talk about one of them and explain their role in the story. The character in the spotlight is Tarao. In this article, we are going to talk about the young boy we’ve seen at Takahara Academy, who was shown to be suffering from an unknown illness. The article will reveal everything you need to know about Tarao and his role in the story so far.
Tarao is a supporting character in the Heavenly Delusion manga and anime, a young black-haired boy who is one of the students at Takahara Academy. He was seen in a wheelchair because he was suffering from an unknown illness, which eventually put him in a hospital bed. The disease is a mystery, and it would, unfortunately, end up killing Tarao.
The rest of this article will be about Tarao and his story in the Heavenly Delusion manga and anime series. We will introduce you to all the facts that are known about the boy, while, at the same time, not revealing too many spoilers from the manga, as the anime series has its own mysterious way of evolving and we want to respect that. Still, if you’re not completely up-to-date with the events that have happened – so far – in the Heavenly Delusion manga, we have to warn you that the article is going to contain spoilers and that you might find out something you do not want to find out, so be careful.
Tarao’s fate is a big mystery
Fans of Heavenly Delusion will know that Takahara Academy is a mysterious and strange place. It is seemingly cut off from the outside world and implied that this is the Heaven the two protagonists are looking for. Whether that is true or not is something we won’t be revealing to you at this moment, as it is not our intention to spoil everything to you in this article. We suggest you take up the manga because it is really good, and it has a truly great storyline. Now, back to Tarao.
Tarao is a young student at Takahara Academy. He is a slim, pale boy with short black hair. He stands out from the other children in the sense that he is actually in a wheelchair and is sick most of the time; he ends up being bedridden later, but more on that later. Tarao is introduced as being close to Tokio (who, despite her androgynous appearance, is a female) and while Tokio does care for him, Tarao seemingly has deeper feelings for her, but Tokio doesn’t really have the same feelings for him, as she is in love with Kona.
Tarao’s story is important for the Academy segment as it was one of the first obvious signs that something was visibly wrong in the so-called paradise. While we see him in a wheelchair, we also see that he is sick and that his skin is covered with black spots that seemingly eat his flesh. We would later find out that the disease itself is not contagious, but it is dangerous and – as things stand now – fatal. The manga revealed more details about this so-called “man-eating disease,” but as we have said, we won’t be giving out too many details here in this article. The focus is on Tarao, and we will keep it that way.
At some point, Tarao was taken to a hospital bed as his condition progressively worsened. Namely, the disease was spreading, and more of his body was being covered by black spots, which is why Tarao needed constant care. The issue was that neither the doctors nor the scientists knew what was happening to him and how to stop it. The disease was, actually, a complete mystery, and no one really knew how and why it spread and why it infected the children.

While he was in the hospital, Tarao asked for Tokio, whom he liked, and at one moment, he “stole” a kiss from her, which caused the shocked Tokio to run away from him, as she did not – as we have said – have the same feelings for him. She liked him, but only as a friend, so this moment was truly specific for both of them. Tarao would later apologize for doing it, while Tokio would go on to forgive him, as friends do. Both of them realized the true nature of the situation and reconciled, but they did not have too much time left.
Namely, at one moment, Tarao’s situation progressively worsened, and after saying his goodbyes to Tokio, Tarao died during the night, which shocked the children, as well as the people running the Academy. Tarao’s body was displayed so that the children could say their goodbyes, while it was ordered that he be buried next to another student, a female, who had recently committed suicide. The staff discussed the situation and continued their research on the disease that killed Tarao, but seemingly without any improvements.
And this is Tarao’s story from the series. Tarao was, as we have said, a supporting character, but he had a significant impact on the story and some later revelations. His death was a tragedy that shocked everyone, and it had a lot of impact on the children in the Academy. The nature of his disease would later be explored, but that has nothing to do with Tarao per se, so we will skip these aspects here. Tarao’s story is short and bittersweet. A gentle and sick boy, managed to steal a kiss from the girl he loved, but who did not love him back, and then died, leaving the story in a truly tragic and sad way.
