Heavenly Delusion: Who Is the Immortal Order’s “Deity”? Hoshio’s Story Revealed!
As fans will know, Heavenly Delusion is a very peculiar manga and anime series. It combines many known elements but still manages to create a uniquely special story that has succeeded in capturing the attention of fans worldwide. Aside from the plot itself, Heavenly Delusion also offers us a series of amazing characters, and in this article, we will talk about one of them and explain their role in the story. The character in the spotlight is Hoshio, who has been hinted at as a mysterious character in Episode 7 of the anime and properly introduced in Episode 8. In this article, we are going to tell you about the tragedy of this character, one of the many we’ve seen in the post-apocalyptic portion of the series. The article will reveal everything you need to know about Hoshio and her role in the story so far.
Hoshio is the name of the so-called “Deity” of the Immortal Order, seen briefly in Episode 7 and then fully introduced in Episode 8. She is no deity but rather a girl who is deformed and mutilated and kept alive artificially using machines by Dr. Usami, with whom she obviously has a very close bond. She is kept alive so that she does not turn into a man-eater and is later killed by Maru when she confirms that she wants to die as a human.
The rest of this article will be about Hoshio and her story in the Heavenly Delusion manga and anime series. We will introduce you to all the facts that are known about this young woman while, at the same time, not revealing too many spoilers from the manga, as the anime series has its own mysterious way of evolving, and we want to respect that. Still, if you’re not completely up-to-date with the events that have happened – so far – in the Heavenly Delusion manga, we have to warn you that the article is going to contain spoilers and that you might find out something you do not want to find out, so be careful.
Hoshio’s story is one of the most shocking and tragic ones so far
Fans of Heavenly Delusion will know that the manga definitely has one of the more intriguing stories out there since every character and aspect of Ishiguro’s world is a story of its own, has a frightening background, and is extremely likable. The general idea of the world created by Ishiguro is that it operates in a strange reality where everything seems normal – in the context of its post-apocalyptic setting – but is actually weird and full of mysteries. Hoshio’s story has finally been revealed in Episode 8 and now that we know her tragedy, we are going to tell you everything you need to know.
Hoshio’s story indirectly begins when Maru and Kiruko reach their new destination. After writing up an ad for their services at a gas station, they camp out during the night and are approached by a group called Liviuman, whom they initially believe are the Immortal Order they had been looking for. But it turns out that Liviuman is actually an opposing group who hates the Immortal Order and wants to stop their experiments. Interestingly enough, the Immortal Order also wanted to approach Kiruko and Maru, but the Liviuman beat them to it.
In their headquarters, an abandoned cafe, the Liviuman members ask Maru and Kiruko to help them by killing a man-eater supposedly living in the underground garage of the Order’s headquarters. With the help of their inside man, Maru, and Kiruko enter the garage and observe a large, seemingly immobile man-eater that resembles one of the strange babies seen in the Academy portion of the story, only larger and more deformed.
While looking around, they also find a series of smaller man-eaters that look like larvae or spider eggs. They are also immobile, and Maru can kill them using his special technique.
Kiruko is suddenly hypnotized by the large man-eater, and she has a nightmarish hallucination where the larvae evolve into small, humanoid man-eaters who are able to walk through solid matter. A lot of them appear and take down Maru, as well as Kiruko, but while Maru is completely numb and doesn’t even defend himself, Kiruko screams and tries to fight them but ends up being eaten piece by piece. Maru’s kiss then wakes her up.
Maru then proceeds to kill the large man-eater, and soon after, they are approached by a tall, blonde man wearing an eyepatch. He doesn’t seem to be hostile toward them, and then they tell him that they are looking for Dr. Usami Shun. He tells them that he is, in fact, Dr. Usami Shun. He then asks them to help him and tells them to follow him.

Dr. Usami Shun takes them up the building, where Maru and Kiruko can see that the Immortal Order is not a criminal organization; they simply help people who have lost a limb by giving them prosthetic limbs that help them. There are no experiments, as Liviuman claims, and all the people in there are actually very grateful to Dr. Usami for helping them.
As they observe that and see for themselves that the strange doctor is not a villain, Maru, and Kiruko are taken to the special room where something strange is being hidden behind a curtain. Maru and Kiruko then female humans, bandaged everywhere except over one eye, without most limbs, and kept alive artificially using machines. This is Hoshio, whom the Liviuman have dubbed the “Deity” of the Immortal Order.
Dr. Usami explains that what they are seeing is indeed a human but adds that he is not doing any experiments. He actually reveals that he is keeping her alive so that she will not become a man-eater; this revelation shocks Maru and Kiruko. This is also the first time the series confirms that man-eaters are “former humans,” as Usami explained. They are humans infected with an incurable, deadly disease that slowly kills them, and after they die, they are turned into man-eaters.
The only way to prolong, as there is no cure, is to remove the infected body parts, but that is only a temporary solution, as the disease will return at one point. This is why the girl, who is later identified as Hoshio, is in such a horrible state.
The doctor then asks Maru and Kiruko if they are able to kill Hoshio because he would like her to die a human and not turn into a man-eater; after Maru confirms that he is able to do it (a known fact since he was able to “access” Totori not long ago), Kiruko wants to know if that is Usami’s or Hoshio’s wish, as they would not want to go against her wishes.
Usami says that Maru can hear them and that she can talk via a tablet. She confirms what Usami said but wants to see the sky one more time. She is then taken outside, and as the Liviuman members are storming the building, she sees the sky once more and is killed by Maru, dying a happy death. Her last words to Dr. Usami revealed that he gave her his eye so that she could at least see something (hence his eyepatch), that she is grateful to him for everything, and that she loves him. As Usami starts to cry, it is confirmed that they are very close.
And that is the story of Hoshio, as seen in the anime. We haven’t revealed all the details. That much is true, but we don’t really want to spoil everything for you. As you can see, it is a very intriguing story, and the details we left out actually reveal the whole context of this tragedy, so we advise you to look up the manga.
This is what has been revealed in the anime episodes that have aired so far; the manga offers a lot more details, but as we never do in our Heavenly Delusion articles, we won’t be revealing too many spoilers. We just have to tell you that you can expect more exciting and shocking information in the future, despite how both Usami and Hoshio ended up.
