Everyone and their grandma knows that Kakashi Hatake is one of the most important characters in Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto series. Although a secondary character, he has been a mentor figure to the protagonist trio since the beginning and is also one of the series’ strongest characters. Kishimoto did well to develop him as a character, and that is why he is so often discussed among the fans. In this article, we will tell you about the moment when Kakashi died – yes, you’ve read that correctly: Kakashi did die in Naruto! – and explain how he is still alive even after that incident with Pain.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • While he was fighting Pain, Kakashi was overpowered, but he did not lose until Pain decided to attack Choji. He then used the last of his chakra to save Choji from being killed, dying instead because he was too weak.
  • Kakashi spent a short time in a certain limbo, where he talked to his father, but was soon revived by Nagato himself, as he sacrificed his last energy to revive all those who had died, including Kakashi.

Kakashi died while fighting Pain

As the story of Kakashi’s death is associated with Pain’s assault and Pain in general, we are going to tell you what happened there so you will know how to handle the issue at hand.

At one point in the story, there is an attack on Konohagakure, and a fight between Kakashi and Pain soon ensues; at that moment, Kakashi is the only one powerful enough to actually take on Pain, but even that was no guarantee at the time. Despite his skills and abilities, Kakashi receives additional support during this fight and can successfully analyze the abilities of the two bodies he fought against. He even manages to destroy one of them, but Pain is still superior to him in the end.

When only Pain’s “demon” body is left, and he attacks Choji, Kakashi uses his last strength to prevent the attack with his Kamui. Still, at a high price – he says that because he has to use the last of his chakra, he will die after executing this attack, an he does exactly that. After this final jutsu, Kakashi’s strength fails, and he loses consciousness, whereupon he devotes his final thoughts to Obito, Rin, and his sensei Minato.

Finally, after his death, he meets his father, Sakumo Hatake, in an in-between world. In this limbo, their two souls can have a long overdue conversation (Sakumo had committed suicide when Kakashi was very young, so Kakashi spent most of his life alone). After Naruto returns to Konohagakure to face Pain, he notices that he can sense the chakra of everyone in the village except Kakashi. He and his father sit around a campfire, and Kakashi tells him his life story. He then forgives his father for “abandoning” him and tells him he is proud of him.

So, as you can see, Kakashi did indeed die during his clash with Pain. It was a moment of sacrifice for him, as he saved Choji’s life by giving up the last of his Chakra, which is a very Kakashi thing to do, as Kakashi always cared more about others than himself. Of course, fans were shocked, and it was too soon for Kakashi to leave, and that is why we can state that his death was not permanent and that he has, indeed, been revived very soon.

He was subsequently revived and is alive and well as of the time of writing

Now, going back to the limbo scene with his father, we have to say that shortly after he finishes his conversation with Sakumo, a bright beam of light comes flying toward Kakashi and brings him back to life. While initially unclear how it happened, it turned out that this was Nagato’s jutsu because the villain repented and sacrificed his life through Naruto to revive all those who died in the attack on Konoha. This was Pain’s final redemption before dying.

Kakashi soon woke up and was informed of what had happened and how Naruto was able to defeat pain. He then took his pupil back to Konoha, where the victory over Pain, one of their toughest opponents, was properly celebrated by everyone, and Naruto was lauded as a hero.
