One Piece: Is Raizo Dead? What Happened to Him?
Everyone knows that the characters of Oda’s One Piece are colorful and diverse, and they really do come in various shapes and sizes, be they heroes or villains, protagonists, or secondary characters. One of these colorful personalities will be the topic of this article, as we will tell you about the skilled ninja Raizo, one of Luffy’s major allies in the Wano Country Arc. Raizo wasn’t a major character in the series, but he did play an important role, and in this article, we are going to tell you what actually happened to him, focusing – primarily – on his fate in the series, i.e., whether he is really dead and what happened to him.
Raizo is currently still alive. Raizo had two major problems near the end of the Wano Country Arc. The first was his duel against Fukurokuju, which he managed to survive and even win, while the other one was Admiral Ryokugyu’s attack, which drained him of almost all of his power. Still, he managed to recover from that attack as well and is now alive and well in the series.
The rest of this article will be about Raizo, his backstory, and his role in the world of Oda’s One Piece series. We will introduce you to his history and tell you what exactly happened to him, how he developed as a character, and tell you where Raizo is now, and what he is doing in the current narrative of the manga. This article will contain some spoilers, so if you’re not fully up-to-date with everything, you have been warned.
Raizo’s story was full of dangers, but he actually survived and is now alive and well
Raizo has a very rich story, as he has been present in several manga arcs. Knowing that it wouldn’t make much sense for us to recapitulate his whole story here, as his story is not even the topic of this article. This is why we will go over his story from the Wano Country Arc, as that arc reveals his ultimate fate and what happened to him.
Knowing that Luffy has been taken prisoner, Raizo offers to free him. Later he watches the broadcast of Shimotsuki Yasuie’s public execution, crying. Later, Raizo observes Luffy embracing the prisoners, trying to give them hope by reiterating his intention to defeat Kaido to restore peace to Wano.
The prisoners later discover that Luffy is a pirate and do not want to trust him despite Raizo’s attempts to convince them; however, when they see Momonosuke, they kneel and listen to the story of what happened the night of his disappearance.
Raizo then contacts Kin’emon, updates him on what happened, and points out that they don’t have any weapons to give to those who have joined their cause. A few days later, he returns to Amigasa, discussing the plan to reach Onigashima with the allies. Kawamatsu reveals to his old comrades that Hiyori is still alive, and Raizo is happy about it.
A day before the final battle, he is among those heading to Tokage Harbour, which he reaches the following day. However, it is desolate and with visible signs of an enemy attack; even the unfavorable weather conditions do not help the crossing reach Onigashima.
But, despite Momonosuke’s objections, the seven members of the Nine Red Scabbards are determined to fight to the end and thus set sail toward Onigashima. However, during the journey, Kanjuro reveals that he is Orochi’s informant. ž
Three enemy ships reach the samurai boat, which is carried onto the deck of the Polar Tang that emerges from below them. When Denjiro rejoins the other Nine Red Scabbards on the Polar Tang, Raizo remarks how much his appearance has changed. At that point, the ninja sees the remaining ship of the Hundred Beasts Pirates sink some boats by shooting long-range cannons. However, it is destroyed by Jinbe, who introduces himself as a new member of Luffy’s crew.
Kin’emon explains the confrontation of Onigashima, and the Alliance decides to split into two groups. The Polar Tang reaches the surface, and Law takes to the mainland together with Raizo, Bepo, Shachi, Penguin, Storm Dog, Ashura Doji, Kikunojo, and Kawamatsu. Raizo and Oden’s other vassals reach Onigashima’s back entrance but are greeted by Kanjuro and several enemies.
Kikunojo gets furious and attacks Kanjuro, starting the clash between the two factions, which ends with the victory of Oden’s followers. Shortly thereafter, Oden’s vassals gather, mourn Kanjuro, and proceed through Onigashima’s back entrance. They then reach the stage, throw themselves at Kaido, and as they fall downstairs, they manage to injure him.
The emperor stands up and points out to his enemies how curious it is that they have allied themselves with pirates, who will betray them as soon as they realize they are at a disadvantage, and that he has already defeated the Straw Hat once.
However, Raizo hears Kin’emon shouting his trust in Luffy, the one who will rule over all the seas. A fight ensues, and the emperor releases an energy wave at one point, but Raizo uses a technique that locks it in a scroll and then sends it back at the pirate. Then he sees Ashura Doji, Denjiro, Kin’emon, and Inuarashi each draw two swords and resort to Oden’s technique to hit Kaido’s scar. The latter admits that he has seen Oden again in them but that they are not at his level.
After Luffy reaches the battlefield, he asks Law to transport the wounded away from it, and the pirate brings them to the treasure room, where someone takes care of them. After an encounter with the fake Oden, Oden’s vassals stumble upon Orochi and Fukurokuju, and the shogun taunts them by claiming that Kanjuro’s treachery shocked them, even if Kyoshiro’s astonished him.
Then Orochi, sure of winning since he sees his opponents already wounded, transforms, but Raizo and his companions cut off all of his heads. At that point, the ninja asks Fukurokuju if he seeks revenge and points out how he protected a fool to death, so he replies that he could say the same and that their clash was written in destiny. So the two face each other.
The two ninjas immobilize each other as the flames reach them. Fukurokuju then yells that it will be worse for him since he has already caught fire, but Raizo claims that he is a vassal of Oden and that such a thing does not burn at all. When the floor is completely invaded by fire, Fukurokuju is also caught up in flames and asks him again to cancel the technique. Otherwise, they will both die. But he doesn’t answer and remains concentrated even though he is now engulfed in flames.
Fukurokuju is completely engulfed in flames, falls to the ground, and screams for water while Raizo remains unmoved. When the opponent loses consciousness following severe burns, Raizo rolls on the ground to release the flames that envelop him. Raizo recovered from these injuries and was later seen celebrating their victory when Luffy woke up.
As the Marines arrived, he was attacked by Admiral Ryokugyu, who used his Devil Fruit powers to suck out almost all of Raizo’s life energy, which shocked his allies. Luckily, Raizo managed to recover from that as well, and with that, we can confirm that he is alive and well.
