Jujutsu Kaisen: Here’s How Suguru Geto Might Come Back to Life!
Suguru Geto and his fate are undoubtedly among the most interesting topics in Jujutsu Kaisen, and that is the principal reason why we keep coming back to this intriguing character and his story, as it happened in the series. And, as you might have deduced, we will do the same in this article as well. In this article, you will find out whether there is a chance for Suguru Geto to come back to life, how big that chance is, and how it might happen if Akutami opts for that option.
There are some ways that could account for Geto’s return to the franchise
Now, the article is, as you could’ve deduced by now, going to be focused on the death and resurrection of Suguru Geto, as we are going to talk about the possibility of him coming back to the series and how such a move could be executed if Gege Akutami ever decides to do it. But, before we get to that, let us first explain how Geto died in the first place and what happened to him, as it is a prerequisite. So, here’s what happened!
In a shocking turn of events in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Yuta Okkotsu defeated Suguru Geto, who was nominally stronger than him. Geto suffered severe injuries, yet he would still be alive if Gojo hadn’t visited the school’s grounds to help his pupils. Suguru then encounters Satoru, and the two start talking about their respective pasts and futures. Before concluding, Suguru handed Yuta’s student ID card back.
Moments later, Suguru Geto tells Gojo that he should kill him on the spot because if he does not, he will simply recover and try to execute his plan once again. So, with a heavy heart, Gojo murders his former best friend before deciding not to dispose of his body, but not giving his body to the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technological College proved to be a grave mistake. Why, you ask? Well, let us explain!
Soon after Gojo had left, a mysterious figure named Kenjaku walked over to the body of Geto. Kenjaku has an Innate Technique that allows him to insert his brain into a corpse. This Innate Technique is so good and proficient that save for a horizontal scar on a corpse’s forehead, there is absolutely no way of telling that Kenjaku possesses a corpse; even Gojo could not discern that he was not talking to Geto when Kenjaku approached him in Geto’s body, although he knew that he had killed him.
As a result of that amazing power, Kenjaku also gains all of that person’s abilities and memories. Thanks to this technique, Kenjaku has been able to live for a very long time and is still alive in the present timeline.
So, as you can see, it can definitely be concluded that Suguru Geto is dead and that Kenjaku is now in possession of his body. But is this truly the end for Suguru Geto? Is there a way he could get back?
First of all, let us tell you that a full resurrection of Suguru Geto would be, from our perspective, a bad narrative move. Geto is a character from the past, and while he is popular and undoubtedly intriguing, his story is over. Geto said what he had to say, and his story ended like it did, in a very emotional way.
Of course, this does not mean that Geto has to be gone for good – the recent Chapter 236 saw Geto return in a very emotional scene – but having him fully resurrected just doesn’t seem like a smart move, so we do hope that Akutami won’t do it (although, seeing how he has already ruined the consistency of the plot, we cannot be fully certain that he won’t do it).
Now that we have said this let us see whether there is a way that Geto could return or not. From our perspective, there are three possible ways.
First of all, the scene from Shibuya in which Geto gained control over his right arm and tried to strangle Kenjaku showed us that Geto wasn’t gone for good; all it took was a brief provocation by Gojo, and Geto came back, which was interesting, seeing how it was thought that Kenjaku had complete control over his corpses; even Kenjaku himself admitted that this was a first for him. Of course, Kenjaku fought off the attempt, but this was a significant implication that Geto was still there, somewhere, and that the soul could not be fully separated from the body.
Using this fact, a theory that, at one point, Geto could get strong enough from the inside to overpower Kenjaku, who would probably have to be weakened, doesn’t seem unlikely. We don’t think that a full and proper resurrection would be possible; it wouldn’t make much sense, but this could be used as a plot element that would lead to Kenjaku’s ultimate defeat in the series, so we cannot rule it out.
Secondly, there is a possibility that Geto could be resurrected via an Innate Technique or some other jujutsu spell, in a similar way that Ogami resurrected Toji Fushiguro. Now, Ogami is dead, so her technique cannot be used, but there could be another character with a similar technique, so we cannot rule that out either. This could lead to a proper resurrection, a full one, but we’ve said that this wouldn’t really make sense from a narrative standpoint.
Also, it remains to be seen whether Kenjaku just possesses the brains of his victims or completely switches them; if it is the first, then there is a solid basis to claim that there is a way for Geto to regain his own body.
Finally, a third way would be an asspull. Yeah, this seems like a silly reason, but seeing what Akutami did in Chapter 236 and how strange of an author he is, we wouldn’t really be too surprised if he came up with something completely illogical to bring Geto back, but we honestly hope that it won’t come to that and that Akutami will maintain the already shaky logic of his own story.
