Ogami was a powerful curse user with a very dangerous technique, but that was not enough to control Toji
The post-credits scene of the most recent Jujutsu Kaisen episode introduced us to a new group of villains that are about to cause problems for the people in Shibuya. There were several, but one of them definitely stood out: the old woman who was seen chanting something in the presence of Jiro Awasaka and an unnamed man, who will later be identified as her grandson. The old woman in question is Ogami, and this article will present her whole story to you.
What can we say about old woman Ogami? We cannot say that Akutami really made an effort to present her whole story to us, but there is enough for us to compose a solid article. Old woman Ogami was a very old and experienced curse user; she was a human who was 87 years old, and she really did look the part, as she was old, small, and wrinkled, just like you’d expect from an old woman of her age. She was, thus, nicknamed Granny Ogami. She always wore ceremonial clothes, as rituals were an important part of her story.
So, in her youth… well, youth is a very relative term in her case, but let’s use it, shall we? So, in her youth, Granny Ogami worked as a successful assassin. Using her powers, she could shapeshift into another person or possess them, which is how she transformed into a young girl and used that shape to kill the young girl’s father. Several years ago, she was also hired to assassinate a young Satoru Gojo, but when he noticed, she retreated, as she was aware of the young boy’s father; she also stopped being an assassin soon after, as she was afraid Gojo would come after her.
At one point, though, she decided to join Kenjaku and his group, as she saw an opportunity to continue with her work after Gojo was removed from the game. And that is what she did.
So, we know that Kenjaku and Mahito’s group did the gist of the job when sealing Gojo was concerned, but their allies also played an important role, and Ogami’s role initially seemed to be quite big. Namely, Ogami and her unnamed grandson worked together because she could use an implant to bring someone back from the dead into her grandson’s body.
She would have authority over these reborn spirits and might utilize them to fight in her place. Now, while they were aware of the danger posed by both their enemies and the conflicts ahead of them, Ogami overestimated her own abilities and chose to revive none other than Toji Fushiguro, or Toji Zenin, as he was actually called. This proved to be a fatal mistake, but how did she even do it?
This brings us to Ogami’s Innate Technique, the Séance Technique, which is quite powerful. Well, to use her power, Ogami needs a corpse. She can then use her technique to summon information about the body (powers and abilities)
Toji Fushiguro was finally revived by Ogami in Chapter 95 of the manga, titled simply “The Shibuya Incident, Part 13” and published on February 17, 2020, and he quickly assumed her grandson’s body.
