Jutusu Kaisen: Is Ijichi Dead or Alive? Here’s What Happened to Him!

The story of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series is slowly progressing, and the most recent episode showed us what the Shibuya Incident is really going to be like, as the sealing of Satoru Gojo is just one small detail. Many characters will find themselves in numerous dire situations that will bring them to the border between life and death. In this article, we will talk about one such character – Kiyotaka Ijichi. Kiyotaka Ijichi was attacked by Shigemo as the sorcerers entered the first barrier and he severely injured him. Nanami found him, but was it in time? In this article, you will find out whether Kiyotaka Ijichi survived or not.

Kiyotaka Ijichi is a trustworthy character who did not deserve what happened to him

Kiyotaka Ijichi was introduced fairly early in the story. He is the assistant director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College, who is also in charge of all the other auxiliary directors and assistants, proving that he is reliable and trustworthy. He also works as a driver and is in charge of organizing many sorcerer activities.

He is always dressed like a bureaucrat and has a very formal attitude to everyone; he is quite reserved and does not reveal much about himself, always prioritizing the mission. He likes it when things go as planned, which is why he tends to get nervous when they don’t, although he can calm himself down fairly easily. He has a good relationship with Nanami, and while he does respect Gojo, the latter’s unpredictable behavior is often a cause of concern for him.

As far as the plot is concerned, it is obvious that Kiyotaka Ijichi has been working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College for some time, as he had already been an established staff member in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which is the prequel to the main series.

He was often seen driving people around and was informed about everything that was happening in the world, which makes sense since he is often charged with organizing things and is also in charge of putting up barriers, which is what we have seen him do on more than one occasion.

He also knows all the main characters and has a fairly friendly relationship with the students as well as the staff members. However, “friendly” is a relative term when Kiyotaka Ijichi is concerned due to his bureaucratic behavior. During the Shibuya Incident, he was one of the group coordinators; this is where this article’s main story actually begins.

Did Shigemo kill Ijichi, or did he survive?

So, skipping forward to the Shibuya Incident, what happened to Kiyotaka Ijichi? Well, we know that he arrived with his own group in front of the barrier not long after Kenjaku and Mahito commenced the execution of their plan. Kiyotaka Ijichi was in charge of organizing his group and coordinating the activities with the other groups, similar to Nitta and the other unnamed assistants.

Not long after his group entered the veil, Kiyotaka Ijichi was approached by someone from behind and severely wounded, as the attacker – who turned out to be Shigemo – left him to die in a pool of his own blood. Shigemo, as revealed later, slaughtered all the assistants that remained outside and finally went to get Nitta, his last remaining target.

In the meantime, Kento Nanami found Ijichi and, furious with what happened to him, took him on his back to an unknown location; Ijichi was, at this point, unconscious, so his fate was not clear. Later, Nanami appeared while Nobara was fighting Shigemo, visibly angry, and demanded Shigemo to tell him how many allies he had and where they were; as Shigemo insisted that he did not know, Nanami severely beat him and finally knocked him out with a powerful punch to the face.

Later, he healed Nitta, who had also been injured by Shigemo, and revealed that he had healed Ijichi, arriving just in time to save him from the injury. Nanami explained that his skills were not all that good, but since Ijichi himself studied to become a jujutsu sorcerer, he made his job easier. We thus know that Kiyotaka Ijichi survived the attempt on his life, but what happened to him later? We actually don’t know.

Namely, Gege Akutami has a horrible habit of forgetting about his characters, which is what he did to a lot of them over the course of the story; he would either confirm their fates and then never use them again (like Aoi), or he would not even confirm what happened to them and then never use them again (like Nobara, potentially even Megumi). Ijichi is in the first group – we know that he survived, but he has not been present in the story later, so we don’t know what he is doing now.
