Solo Leveling is a South Korean web novel written by Chu-Gong. The story follows Sung Jinwoo, an E-rank Hunter, who is the weakest of the weak in a world where gates to dungeons have appeared, unleashing monsters upon the earth. However, after a near-death experience in a dungeon, he can level up and become stronger. But this is not going to be an article about Sung Jinwoo. This article is going to be about a legendary S-Rank Hunter who debuted in the first episode of the anime but never played a major role in the original webtoon. He is Eunseok, and in this article, we are going to tell you all you need to know about him.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Eunseok was a legendary S-Rank Hunter from South Korea and a secondary character from the Solo Leveling webtoon. He debuted in Chapter 89 of the webtoon but never had much impact on the main story.
  • Eunseok was an exceptionally skilled offensive Hunter who seemed to use blades and electric attacks to fight his opponents. He was a member of the Jeju Island raid team during the 3rd attempt.
  • Sadly, while they were initially successful, he and his companions failed to close the gate, and Eunseok was killed during this attempt.

Eunseok was a well-known and powerful S-Rank Hunter

Over the 200 or so chapters, the original Solo Leveling webtoon introduced us to a plethora of different characters. Some of these characters were important; some only left a mark on the series, while a lot of them remained secondary characters. The character we are going to talk about here is a combination of the third and second groups, and his name is Eunseok. He himself never left a mark, but he had a lot of influence on some of the other characters, so here is his story.

As you’ll probably know, Eunseok was a legendary S-Rank Hunter from Korea. In the webtoon, he debuted in Chapter 89, while the anime adaptation introduced him during a flashback in Episode 1. Sadly, the series never revealed much about him; he was a tall, slender man with long brown hair and brown eyes. He was friends with his fellow S-Rank Hunters, Baek Yoonho and Min Byung-Gyu. And that is about it. We don’t know more about him.

He was powerful, and he was one of the best-known and strongest Hunters of his time, but that much is obvious. We’re not revealing anything new by saying this. He was skilled with blades, he was very fast and agile, and he used electric attacks to fight his enemies; he could even attack more enemies at once with his attacks. He was seen eliminating a large group of Ants without a problem, even the bigger White Ants, so he proved his strength in the series. And this is where we have to stop because the authors never revealed any additional information about Eunseok or his powers. We know what happened to him, though, and we are about to reveal that now.

He perished during the 3rd raid on Jeju Island

So, Eunseok was one of the S-Rank Hunters who went to Jeju Island to fight the Ants and close the gate. He was accompanied by his friends Baek Yoonho and Min Byung-Gyu. They initially saved a group of weaker Hunters and then proceeded to fight the Ants, and it all went well until one point when their attempt failed, and Eunseok was killed during the failed raid attempt. His fellow Hunters managed to survive, but not without consequences.

Although it was a mere narrative moment with no real importance, the death of Eunseok influenced Baek’s and Min’s lives greatly. Namely, Min Byung-Gyu was so traumatized by Eunseok’s death that he, despite his S-Rank status, decided to quit being a Hunter and simply opted to work as a history teacher instead. Baek Yoonho did not quit being a Hunter, but he was also a different person after this experience; when a new raid was announced, Min even tried to dissuade Baek from going, but Baek said that he had to be there to save the people of Korea, who would suffer the consequences of the Jeju Island Gate remaining open.

So yeah, he died, and his death impacted his fellow Hunters. We don’t know what happened to him during the restarted timeline, as we’re not sure that Sung Jinwoo went that far back to revive Eunseok; the sequel has not revealed any information about him as of the time of writing.
