‘Solo Leveling: Ragnarok’ Plot: What Is the Sequel About?
Solo Leveling is a South Korean novel series written by Chugong and published online at KakaoPage, before being published by D&C Media under its Papyrus publishing imprint. The series consists of 14 volumes and 270 chapters. A webtoon adaptation comprising 179 chapters was completed on December 29, 2021. An anime also premiered in January 2024, but what about Solo Leveling: Ragnarok? Never heard of it? Well, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is a thing, and it is actually the official sequel to Solo Leveling. In this article, we are going to tell you about the plot of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok and solve any dilemmas you might have about the sequel series.
How does Solo Leveling end?
Solo Leveling started off as a web novel back in 2016. That was the first work in the franchise, and it was published until 2021 when the story was concluded. In this time, a total of 270 chapters have been published, which were split into 22 narrative arcs. The original ending was the Final Battle Arc and the Epilogue, which basically concluded the main story of the Solo Leveling series.
So, what happened there? Well, after having absorbed the powers of the Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo prepares for his ultimate showdown with Antares, the most powerful Monarch and the King of Dragons, as well as the series’ ultimate villain. Sung Jinwoo, of course, manages to defeat his opponent and with the battle being over, Antares is finally defeated. Having achieved his goal, Jinwoo decides to go back in time and change history as it happened so that he can save all those he lost during this horrible and exhausting war.
And that is, basically, what happened, i.e., how the story ended. Sung Jinwoo ultimately fixed the timeline with the Cup of Reincarnation and that is how the story ended. However, there were some additional chapters, the so-called Side Stories, which were later corrected as part of the Academy Arc. As said, Jinwoo went back in time and is now living as a completely normal high school student. But, what he did not know was that the problems were not over and that he would have to face new challenges sooner rather than later.
The side stories didn’t really contribute much to the plot; they simply added some extra content there, and with that, Solo Leveling was officially over. But, in 2023, a completely new work appeared.
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is a sequel that continues the original story with a new generation
The Side Stories were never an official sequel to Solo Leveling; instead, the author announced that he would, indeed, be writing a proper sequel story, which ended up being titled Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. You can assume that the world is in danger once more since the title refers to an armageddon-like event. The series began publication in April 2023, and a webtoon adaptation, as well as an English translation, have been announced.
Since the official English translation still hasn’t been published as of the time of writing, we only have a limited set of information about the actual plot of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. We know that it is a sequel set roughly 20+ years after the end of Solo Leveling. Namely, Sung Jinwoo and Hae-in ended up getting married, and they had a son named Sung Su-ho. At the start of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Sung Su-ho is roughly a high schooler or a college student, which means that some years have passed and that the world enjoyed peace in the meantime if only a bit.
But, since Sung Su-ho inherited his father’s powers, it makes sense that he will end up being in the center of a new dangerous event that might, if the title is true, suggest that the world will once again be in grave danger and that a threat that could destroy it appeared once again. As soon as the official translations are out, we are going to provide you with more information about the story.
