Terraria: Can’t Pick up Treasure Bag? Here’s How To Solve It

The most important perk of defeating a boss in Terraria is getting a treasure bag. Treasure bags are an important source of valuable gear, resources, and varying amounts of gold. To get a treasure bag, you need to defeat a boss, and the drop is guaranteed, but is it really? Some players were incredibly disappointed when they realized that they could not pick up or open their treasure bags, so we decided to put this guide together. Let’s see how to pick up a treasure bag in Terraria. 

How do you get a treasure bag in Terraria?

You get treasure bags when you defeat Terarria’s bosses. Treasure bags are guaranteed consumable drops that you get when you defeat Terraria’s bosses. They belong to a rainbow rarity tier and contain valuable loot tied in some way to the boss who dropped the specific treasure bag. 

There are currently 21 treasure bags in the game, each being dropped from a single drop. In appearance, treasure bags share the theme with the boss from which they dropped. Treasure bags have bosses’ normal drops. Hardmode bosses’ Treasure can contain a set of developer items, and the chance for such drops is around 5%. 

Speaking of drop rates, It’s important to mention that those are extremely higher, and often even doubled in multiplayer mode. The rewards you get from treasure bags in multiplayer are generally better. 

Does everyone get a Treasure Bag in Terraria?

In multiplayer mode, you get a treasure bag as long as you’ve dealt at least 1 point of damage to the boss. It’s a fair mechanic based on participation. Everyone who dealt at least some damage will be rewarded. Keep in mind that this can be abused as well since 1 point of damage is not nearly enough to do some real damage to bosses. 

Why can’t you pick up a treasure bag in Terraria? 

The issue of being unable to pick up a treasure bag in Terraria can be caused by multiple things. It can be either client-side or caused by the player himself. Let’s review some of the possible reasons. 

You can’t pick up a treasure bag due to a bug 

This is the most common reason why a player can’t pick up a treasure bag, especially in multiplayer mode. Bugs are unpredictable in nature, and there’s little you can do to avoid them. If you can’t pick up a treasure bag due to a bug, there’s really not much you can do about it. Leaving the area without picking up a bag will cause it to despawn, and that means it’s lost forever. 

Sometimes this issue can be solved by waiting a few minutes and then attempting to pick up the treasure bag again.

You can’t pick up a bag because you haven’t dealt any damage to the boss

This does not happen as often, but maybe it’s something that affects you. Treasure bags in Terraria do not drop for everyone. As we’ve stated before, you need to deal at least 1 point of damage to the boss in order to be eligible for treasure bag drop. Make sure that you participate in the boss fight before you attempt to pick up a treasure bag. 

You can’t pick up the treasure bag because your inventory is full

This seems like an obvious thing, but you would be surprised how often this happens. Make sure that you have space to accommodate treasure bags and the items that drop from them. If your inventory is full, you will be unable to pick up anything not just treasure bags. 

You’re doing it wrong!

Sometimes, it’s the little things, and players simply attempt to open a treasure bag the wrong way. Treasure bags are opened by right-clicking on them while they are in your inventory or you can activate them while they are in your hand. So before suspecting anything from above, try opening them right. 

Can you get trophies from treasure bags Terraria?

You cannot get trophies from treasure bags in Terraria. No matter the mode that you play on. Trophies are not looted from treasure bags. Trophies drop like regular loot from a specific boss that you’ve defeated, and if you don’t see a trophy in your inventory after opening your treasure bags, the chances are the trophy didn’t drop at all. It’s not a bug or anything.

To sum everything up. Treasure bags are valuable boss drops as they provide you with items that you cannot acquire in any other way. In order to be eligible for a treasure bag drop, you need to take part in a boss fight and deal at least 1 point of damage to it. 

One common issue, mostly in multiplayer mode, is that sometimes players cannot open a treasure bag when the boss fight is finished. This is usually caused by a bug or trying to open the treasure bag in the wrong way. Unfortunately, not much can be done about the bugs. If you leave the area and return, your treasure bag will be gone since they despawn.

The most you can do is wait for a few minutes and then try picking up the bag. If it still doesn’t work, you’re likely out of luck, and you will not be able to retrieve your treasure bag.
