Marvel Reportedly Aiming to Make Daredevil the Gateway of a Street-Level MCU Initiative
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is one of the most eagerly awaited releases in the MCU. Although Matt Murdock has already made several appearances, his official integration marks a shift that fans have long been hoping for—the rise of street-level heroes in the MCU.
Until now, the MCU has primarily centered on grand, larger-than-life stories, and the Multiversal Saga is no exception. With all the reality-bending events and alternate versions of characters, fans are now yearning for some classic, down-to-earth action with fewer superpowers in the mix.
This year’s release of ‘Echo’ was one step in bringing Netflix’s Defenders Saga into the MCU canon, but Daredevil is set to play an even more significant role.
In a recent Discord AMA, Alex Perez revealed that Marvel Studios plans to use Daredevil as a gateway for street-level stories in the MCU, with the character potentially crossing paths with others like Moon Knight and Yelena Belova.
idoideas: Are we going to see Daredevil blending more into the greater MCU? Should we expect him to fight alongside other Marvel heroes in a feature film?
Alex: Definitely. Marvel intends to use Daredevil as a gateway to new stories for street superheroes. In terms of interactions, we can expect, of course, the long-awaited team-up between Spider-Man and Daredevil. I’ve also heard of some ideas down the road for Daredevil to encounter other heroes, particularly Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight and Florence Pugh’s Black Widow. However, those are still just ideas down the road for different projects.
Rumors about Daredevil becoming more integrated into the street-level side of the MCU have been circulating for a while. A few months ago, there was buzz that ‘Spider-Man 4’ would focus on street-level crime, featuring Spider-Man interacting with Daredevil and Kingpin. However, more recent rumors suggest the storyline has shifted back to the Multiverse, disappointing some fans.
‘Moon Knight’ is also rumored to be getting a second season, and Florence Pugh’s Black Widow is set to return to the MCU next year with the release of ‘Thunderbolts*.’ So far, the plot of ‘Thunderbolts*’ has faced some criticism, as it centers on mostly street-level heroes taking on Sentry, one of Marvel’s most powerful characters. How this will play out remains to be seen.
