“Agatha All Along” is the upcoming MCU series spinning off from the hit show “WandaVision.” It will center on Agatha Harkness as she escapes her imprisonment by the Scarlet Witch and returns to the world without her powers. Determined to regain her strength, Agatha will assemble a coven of witches and embark on the Witches Road.

The show boasts a captivating premise and an impressive cast. Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role as Agatha Harkness, joined by Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan and Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale. Ali Ahn will portray Alice Wu-Gulliver, while Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili are cast in yet-to-be-revealed roles. Debra Jo Rupp will appear as Sharon Davis, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, and Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal/Green Witch.

Sasheer Zamata will be one of the witches accompanying Agatha on her journey. She plays Jennifer Kale, a witch with a focus on potions, whose powers are derived from alchemy and chemistry, as described in the show.

Kale recently spoke with Them about her experiences as a queer person in the industry and how she was cast in lesbian roles even before she fully recognized her own sexuality.

“I kept getting cast as queer women, I played a lesbian on Home Economics. I played a lesbian on Woke. I played a lesbian on Tuca & Bertie. A lesbian on Last O.G. I kept getting these roles. And this is before I myself was figuring out my identity. I was like, ’Whoa, what are these casting directors seeing that I’m not seeing? […]That’s what conservatives joke about all the time, They’re like, ‘Oh my God, they’re turning everyone gay.

Sasheer came out during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and acknowledged that there were some changes as a result.

It really did kind of change everything, I cut all my hair off. And I was always attracted to women, but I think [that] really boosted it. Even my friends and people around me were like, ‘Something is different about you. We can’t put our finger on it, but something’s happening.

The actress also clarified that her character in the show isn’t explicitly queer, but she did find meaningful ways to connect with Jennifer Kale.

It’s nice to be able to portray a character who has been an outcast for a lot of her life, and to be in a show that’s exploring so many cool female themes and queer themes, it feels very appropriate.

Sasheer isn’t the only queer cast member of “Agatha All Along”; Joe Locke, who plays “the Teen,” is also part of the show. He recently shared that he’s already faced backlash from fans because of his sexuality and his character’s openness about being gay. Both Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza have hinted at potential romantic developments between their characters, though this has yet to be confirmed. Have thoughts to share?
