Sydney Sweeney Packs a Punch With Christy Martin in First Look Footage
Sydney Sweeney is one of the most popular young actresses today. The actress first gained attention in 2018 with roles in ‘Everything Sucks!,’ ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ and ‘Sharp Objects.’ In 2019, she became widely recognized for her role in HBO’s ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The White Lotus,’ earning two Primetime Emmy nominations.
Sweeney is slated to portray famous boxer Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic, and due to this, she is undergoing extensive physical training.
TMZ exclusively obtained photos and video of Sydney Sweeney sparring in a boxing ring with Christy Martin, the real-life boxing legend. The footage shows Sweeney training and playfully exchanging punches with Martin as she prepares for her role in an upcoming biopic about the former champion.

The photos show Sydney Sweeney on set, dressed in a white blazer, sitting on a ’90s-style couch, with an old Sports Illustrated magazine featuring her on the cover nearby. This scene likely represents an important moment in the film when Christy Martin was at the peak of her fame. In real life, Christy appeared on the Sports Illustrated cover in 1996, a moment that helped bring women’s boxing into the spotlight.
The upcoming Christy Martin biopic features Ben Foster as Christy’s husband and trainer, James V. Martin, and Merritt Wever as Joyce Salters. Katy O’Brian plays boxer Lisa Holewyne, while Ethan Embry and Jess Gabor portray John Salters and Sherry Lusk, respectively. The cast also includes Chad L. Coleman as legendary boxing promoter Don King and Tony Cavalero as James Maloney.
The film will be produced by Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, David Michôd, Justin Lothrop, Brent Stiefel, Sydney Sweeney, and Teddy Schwarzman, with Michael Heimler, John Friedberg, Mirrah Foulkes, Brad Zimmerman, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, and Nick Shumaker as executive producers.
The production companies include Anonymous Content, Yoki, Inc., Votiv, Fifty-Fifty Films, and Black Bear Pictures. Filming started on September 30, 2024, in North Carolina, and was completed by November 15, 2024.
