Rob Liefeld Thinks Kevin Feige Should Be Fired from Marvel: “Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent.”
Rob Liefeld, the guy who brought Deadpool to life in the comics, has some strong words for Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. He’s not holding back, saying it’s time for Feige to step down. Liefeld’s exact words? ‘Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent.’ This comes after a rough patch for Marvel, especially with the latest Captain America movie not doing so hot at the box office.
Let’s talk about that movie for a sec. ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ hit theaters with Anthony Mackie taking over the shield from Chris Evans. It kicked off decently over the Presidents Day weekend in February 2025, pulling in a solid chunk of cash. But then, the second weekend rolled around, and the numbers crashed hard—down over 68% from its opening. That’s one of the steepest drops Marvel’s ever seen, right up there with ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’. With a budget hovering around $300 million, it’s no surprise people are raising eyebrows.
Liefeld’s beef with Feige isn’t just about box office flops, though. He’s been vocal about feeling disrespected by Marvel for a while now. Back in July 2024, when ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ premiered, Liefeld says he got the cold shoulder from Feige and other big shots at Disney.
Worse, he and his family weren’t even invited to the afterparty—something he took as a personal jab after being part of past Deadpool celebrations. On his podcast, Robservations, he let it all out, claiming Marvel doesn’t treat comic creators right. That snub was the final straw, and he cut ties with the company completely.
Now, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was a different story—it smashed records and brought in over a billion dollars worldwide. Ryan Reynolds led that charge, with Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine, and it gave Marvel a much-needed win. Liefeld co-created Deadpool with Fabian Nicieza, debuting the character in ‘The New Mutants #98’ back in 1990. So, you’d think he’d be riding high off that success. Instead, he’s pointing fingers at Feige, blaming him for Marvel’s recent struggles.
Marvel’s had a wild ride under Feige. He’s the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, turning it into a global juggernaut with hits like ‘Avengers: Endgame’. But lately, things haven’t been as smooth. Post-Endgame, the MCU’s churned out movies and shows like ‘Black Widow’, ‘Eternals’, and ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’. Some clicked—‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ did great—but others, not so much. ‘The Marvels’ barely broke even, and now ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is stumbling.
Liefeld even compared it to sports—saying if this were the Lakers or Yankees, a coach would be out the door after a string of losses like this. ‘Brave New World’ brought in Harrison Ford as Red Hulk, which sounded awesome, but it hasn’t been enough to keep the crowds coming back. Meanwhile, the MCU’s got big plans ahead, like ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and Feige’s still steering the ship.
So, what’s Liefeld really after? He’s not just mad about one movie. He’s been vocal about wanting Marvel to give comic creators more respect—and maybe a bigger slice of the pie. After all, without characters like Deadpool, there’d be no films to bank on. His call to ditch Feige is bold, but it’s personal too. Whether Disney listens is another story—Feige’s been the face of Marvel for over 15 years, and he’s not going anywhere quiet yet.
For now, Liefeld’s done with Marvel. His last comic with them, ‘Deadpool Team-Up #5’, dropped in February 2025, and he’s walking away. I reckon he’s hoping his words shake things up. Will they? Hard to say. But with Marvel’s ups and downs, it’s clear not everyone’s happy with how things are going.
