New reports suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons could have a cool new feature, customizable side panes. This idea is similar to what the PlayStation 5 already has with its changeable side covers. But for Nintendo, this feature seems to be for the controllers, not the console itself.

According to CentroLeaks, the Joy-Cons for the Switch 2 may have side panels that can be taken off and replaced.

You will be able to customize the Joy-Con 2 side panes like the PS5 faceplates,” the report said. However, unlike the PS5, where you change the console’s panels, here it’s only for the Joy-Cons.

Some sellers have already started offering these removable side panes online. On sites like Alibaba, you can find “controller decorative strips” for the Switch 2 selling for around $4.

These strips let you change the look of your Joy-Cons by adding different colors. Right now, though, it looks like you can’t change the color of the thumbsticks to match the new panels.

If this feature turns out to be real, it could give players a fun and cheap way to make their controllers look fresh, without having to buy a whole new set of Joy-Cons. Still, Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed this yet.

If true, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Nintendo starts selling its own custom decorative side panes soon. Until then, third-party sellers seem to be ahead of the game.
