A new version of the classic Gears of War game is coming soon. Microsoft has announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the original game. It will be released on August 26 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam).

The game will cost $40, but if you are a Game Pass Ultimate member, you can play it on day one at no extra cost. It will also be available to stream through Xbox Cloud Gaming.

This remaster follows the success of Oblivion Remastered, which did very well in April.

Gears of War: Reloaded will support 4K resolution and run at 120 frames per second. It also includes multiplayer, cross-play, and cross-progression. That means you can play with friends on other systems and keep your progress no matter which platform you play on.

If you already own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, you will get Reloaded for free.

Microsoft says this is the best way to experience the game that started it all. As the 20th anniversary of Gears of War approaches in 2026, Microsoft is excited to bring the game to more players.

The new version includes everything from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which came out in 2015. That edition was already a remake of the original 2006 game. Reloaded includes the full game, all added content, extra multiplayer maps and modes, and special character looks (cosmetics).

You can play the campaign in two-player co-op, either online or split-screen. The multiplayer supports up to eight players.

You don’t need a Microsoft account to play, but you’ll need one to use full cross-platform features like cross-progression.

Gears of War: Reloaded is being made by The Coalition, Sumo Interactive, and Disbelief.
