The first hour of gameplay from Death Stranding 2: On The Beach has leaked online, giving fans an early look at the much-anticipated sequel before it officially comes out. The leak comes from a Spanish YouTuber who goes by the name ariel navarro rg. Somehow, they got access to the game early and posted a full hour of footage.

Right now, no one knows exactly how the YouTuber got the game. It’s possible they picked it up from a store that sold it ahead of release, or maybe they got a media copy and either didn’t realize it was under embargo, or decided to ignore that completely. Either way, the footage is now out there for anyone to watch.

Editor’s Note: The video in question has since been removed from YouTube.

Death Stranding 2 was first announced back in December 2022 at The Game Awards. Development, though, started much earlier in 2020. According to the game’s composer, the story had to be rewritten partway through because people were reacting too positively to it during early testing.

Hideo Kojima, the game’s creator, apparently wanted to make something more emotional and challenging. “He wanted people to feel more conflicted,” the composer shared.

As of now, there’s no Metacritic rating for the game since reviews aren’t out yet. But most of Kojima’s past games have done well with critics, often scoring in the high 80s. That’s probably what fans can expect again.

When it comes to the price, the Standard Edition will be $69.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99, and for those who really want to go all in, the Collector’s Edition is $229.99.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is coming out on June 26, 2025, and it’ll be available only on PlayStation 5. It’s being developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Like the first game, Hideo Kojima is in charge of writing, producing, and directing. This is the second major project from Kojima Productions as an independent studio.

The sequel brings back some familiar faces. Norman Reedus returns as Sam Porter Bridges, along with Léa Seydoux as Fragile and Troy Baker as Higgs. The game also features new characters played by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, Luca Marinelli, Alastair Duncan, Alissa Jung, and Debra Wilson. Some well-known directors even show up in the game, like George Miller and Fatih Akin. Nicolas Winding Refn also returns from the first game.

The story takes place mostly in Australia, around eleven months after the first game ended. The world is still pretty broken, full of weird and dangerous creatures. Players will once again take control of Sam, who’s trying to connect people living in isolated spots across the continent. The goal is to bring them all into a kind of wireless communication network called the “chiral” network and, hopefully, stop humanity from going extinct.
