‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Releases New Trailer: John Cena Takes on a Wild New Universe”
DC Studios made a big splash at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. They came with something fans were excited for: the trailer for Peacemaker Season 2.
The panel started with the long-awaited trailer for the second season. In it, John Cena’s Christopher Smith, also known as Peacemaker, finds himself in a new parallel universe. It looks just like our world, maybe even better.
In this place, he gets to be with Harcourt, played by Jennifer Holland. But back in the regular world, Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is working hard to shut the portal and go head-to-head with Peacemaker. At one point, Leota (Danielle Brooks) tells him, “No matter how great the grass is over there, you belong here with us.”
James Gunn talked about what’s different this time around. He said, “I really like TV shows where the characters don’t just return every season and they’re the same exact characters. I want to see growth. I want to see change and sometimes regression. And Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He’s dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season and trying to deal with them, and the world is not accepting him the way he is. They aren’t accepting him as a hero.”
The new season picks up after Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. Some of the movie’s characters, like Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabel Merced), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), cross over into Peacemaker.
In a scene shown at Comic-Con, the trio interviews Peacemaker for a potential spot on the Justice League.
The audience also got to see an extra clip featuring Harcourt. In it, she takes down a bunch of guys at a bar who try to whistle and catcall her. Gunn said that day of filming was his favorite on set, at least until they shot something even better for Episode 8. Holland also teased that there’s a Dirty Dancing lift moment in the opening credits this season.
Looking back at Season 1, Peacemaker ended up saving the world from alien butterflies. It was also revealed that Leota is the daughter of Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis. The season ended with Chris sitting outside his house with the ghost of his dad, Auggie (Robert Patrick), who’s expected to stick around in Season 2. Chris also kept Goff, the butterfly, alive and inherited his dad’s stash of weapons and outfits.
According to the official description, the new season follows Chris as he tries to make peace with his past while continuing to fight bad guys in his own weird way.
At the panel, returning cast members included Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and newcomers Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows. Grillo and Cena were there too. Danielle Brooks couldn’t make it because she got food poisoning after dinner with Gunn. He got sick too but said he was feeling better by the time of the panel.
Cena made a joke about drinking tons of water to stay healthy, then laughed about possibly having to pee in his suit.
Gunn also shared something new and funny, Eagley, Peacemaker’s trusty eagle sidekick, is getting his own “Lex Luthor.” Michael Rooker will be playing a famous eagle hunter who becomes a big threat.
Peacemaker Season 2 drops on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, and will have eight episodes.
