New ‘Monster Hunter’ Game Announced, Charging Onto Switch 2 Soon
Capcom has lifted the curtain on the next chapter in the Monster Hunter Stories series, and fans have a brand new adventure to look forward to. The game is called Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and it’s heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026.
This will be the third game in the spin-off RPG series, which puts players in the boots of a Rider — someone who forms strong bonds with monsters instead of hunting them. Riders travel alongside these creatures, raising them, battling with them, and exploring a colorful world full of danger and mystery.
According to the game’s official synopsis from Capcom, “Twin Rathalos born in a twist of fate. Their appearance sets the stage for a new tale of Riders and Rathalos to unfold.” It’s a poetic way of teasing what sounds like a dramatic, monster-filled journey.
Nintendo has shared even more about what players can expect. In its description, Nintendo says, “Embark on a new adventure as a Rider living in harmony with monsters in the third instalment of the turn-based RPG series set in the world of Monster Hunter. Amidst an environmental calamity, a monster hatches, bearing a symbol of misfortune that drives two neighbouring kingdoms to war. The heirs of these two kingdoms venture into forbidden ground in search of the truth.”
A new tale of Riders and monsters takes flight! Revealed in the Nintendo Direct, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, the next evolution of the turn-based, story-rich RPG series, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC/Steam in 2026.

If that sounds like high-stakes fantasy drama, it’s because Monster Hunter Stories has always been more story-driven compared to the main Monster Hunter games. Players will not only fight alongside their monster partners, but also uncover deep mysteries about the world and the creatures living in it.
The first Monster Hunter Stories game originally came out on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2016. It found new life in 2024 when it was brought to Switch, PS4, and PC. The sequel, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, launched on Switch and PC in 2021 before arriving on PS4 later the same year. Both games developed a dedicated following, especially among fans who enjoyed the mix of turn-based combat and monster collecting.
One fun detail about the series is that it’s one of the rare third-party Nintendo series to have its own amiibo line. Both the first and second Monster Hunter Stories games had unique amiibo figures made for them. Capcom hasn’t said whether Monster Hunter Stories 3 will get the same treatment, but given the series’ history, it wouldn’t be a surprise.
For now, fans can only speculate about what “Twisted Reflection” truly means, how the twin Rathalos fit into the bigger picture, and what kinds of new monsters they’ll get to bond with. But one thing is for sure, Riders will be saddling up for another heartfelt and monster-filled journey on Switch 2 when the game launches in 2026.
