‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Lags Far Behind ‘Superman’ in Box Office Battle
The battle between Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps and DC’s Superman is looking more and more one-sided. According to the latest box office numbers, as of August 3, 2025, Fantastic Four has made $197.1 million in the United States and Canada and $170.3 million in other countries.
That’s a worldwide total of $367.4 million. Superman, on the other hand, is flying much higher with $316.1 million in the U.S. and Canada and $235.3 million internationally, adding up to $551.4 million worldwide. But, it makes sense, Superman has been out longer right?
Things started off promising for Fantastic Four. Before its release, it was expected to earn between $190 and $210 million globally in its opening weekend.
But after that big start, the movie’s momentum has taken a serious hit. On its second Friday, it made just $11.7 million, an 80% drop from the first Friday. That’s the worst Friday-to-Friday drop for any superhero movie this year.
Superman, on the other hand saw a 54% drop, which was deemed better than other superhero films of 2025 grossing $57 million.
On the box-office subreddit, user NGGKroze summed it up by saying, “Fantastic Four is now $42 million behind Superman globally after the same amount of time, compared to just $3 million behind after opening weekend.” They added that, if things keep going this way, Fantastic Four will likely end up making between $490 and $520 million worldwide, with a best-case scenario of $550 million if it stabilizes.
It’s Fantastic Punk Rock – F4 vs Superman: As Fantastic Four disappoints with huge 2nd weekend drop, its now $42M (-10.2%) globally behind Superman in the same time frame, opposed to just $3M on OW. With such trend F4 will settle in the $490-520M range. Stabilization would put it at $520-550M.

Fantastic Four: First Steps is Marvel’s latest reboot of the superhero team, set in a retro-futuristic version of the 1960s. Directed by Matt Shakman, the film stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the team, with Julia Garner, Sarah Niles, Mark Gatiss, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson also appearing.
In the movie, the heroes must protect Earth from the planet-devouring Galactus.
Right now, Superman has the clear lead, and unless Fantastic Four finds a way to pick up speed, DC’s Man of Steel will win this summer’s superhero showdown without much of a fight.
Together. As a family.
