Gina Carano and Disney Make Peace After ‘Mandalorian’ Legal Dispute: ‘We Look Forward to Identifying Opportunities to Work Together in the Future’
Gina Carano and Disney have decided to put their legal fight behind them. The former star of The Mandalorian reached an agreement with Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company, ending the lawsuit she filed over her firing from the hit Star Wars series.
Variety reports that a spokesperson for Lucasfilm released a statement about the settlement. In their words, “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
Carano played Cara Dune on The Mandalorian until 2021. She was removed from the show after she posted on social media, comparing being a Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust. The post drew heavy backlash online, and Lucasfilm quickly announced she would no longer be part of the Star Wars project.
Three years later, in 2024, Carano took the matter to court. She filed a lawsuit in federal court in California, claiming she had been wrongfully fired and discriminated against. She also asked the court to order Lucasfilm to bring her character back to the show and to pay her at least $75,000 in punitive damages. Elon Musk reportedly financed the lawsuit something that Carano herself confirmed.
The details of the settlement have not been shared publicly, and it’s not clear if Carano will return to The Mandalorian or any other Disney or Lucasfilm project. But the statement from the company suggests that the door is open.
For now, both sides seem ready to move forward, with Lucasfilm making it clear they still hold respect for Carano and her work.
