Jeremy Allen White Reveals His Character in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’
Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in The Bear, is officially part of the Star Wars universe.
The actor confirmed that he will be voicing Rotta the Hutt, the son of the infamous Jabba the Hutt, in the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu. This marks Rotta’s first appearance in live-action after being introduced in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
In an interview with Good Morning America, White explained how the opportunity came about. He shared that he met Jon Favreau, who directed The Mandalorian series and is now directing the new film. “You know, it’s funny, I met Jon Favreau, who directed the film and the series prior, and I’ve been such a huge fan of Jon’s for a very long time, and so we talked about movies and I asked about Swingers. And he said, ‘Would you like to come in and maybe talk to me about doing a voiceover for Star Wars?’”
White said he immediately agreed, though the importance of his role hit him only later. “I love Star Wars, I’d be so happy to,” he recalled, adding that “in the moment, almost, I discovered the weight of the character I was voicing.”
The Mandalorian & Grogu will continue the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and is directed by Jon Favreau, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni. The film features Pedro Pascal returning as Din Djarin, alongside Sigourney Weaver as Ward, a New Republic officer, and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord.
Lucasfilm originally planned to continue the story with a fourth season of The Mandalorian, but production delays during the 2023 Hollywood strikes led the studio to shift gears and turn the project into a feature film instead.
Filming began in California in August 2024 and wrapped by the end of that year. The movie is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026.
According to the official plot, the story follows Din Djarin and Grogu as they are recruited by the New Republic after the fall of the Galactic Empire. The two must face a new threat from surviving Imperial leaders trying to regain control of the galaxy.
Along with the main cast, Dave Filoni will reprise his role as X-wing pilot Trapper Wolf, and familiar Star Wars characters such as Zeb Orrelios and the Anzellans will make appearances.
With Jeremy Allen White joining the cast as Rotta the Hutt, the film is expected to introduce a fresh angle to the galaxy far, far away while connecting back to one of Star Wars’ most famous crime families.
