James Gunn’s ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Unveils Its Big Villain
Superman and Lex Luthor are joining forces to face a powerful new villain in James Gunn’s upcoming film, “Man of Tomorrow,” TheWrap reports.
The movie will see the two famous characters team up against Brainiac, one of Superman’s most dangerous foes.
Filming is set to begin in Atlanta in April 2026, and the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. Fans had long guessed that Brainiac would be the main antagonist, especially since the story involves an unusual alliance between Superman and Luthor.
James Gunn has been working on this project for a while. In June, he mentioned that he was developing a follow-up to Superman that would not be a direct sequel but would still focus heavily on the hero.
By August, David Zaslav confirmed that Gunn would both write and direct the next entry in the “Super-Family.” Gunn said he had already finished a script treatment and described the film as the next chapter in the “Superman Saga.”
In September, Gunn officially revealed the movie’s title as “Man of Tomorrow” and confirmed the July 2027 release date. He also noted that Rachel Brosnahan, Naomi Corenswet, and Nicholas Hoult are expected to return to their roles. Gunn described the story as “as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie”, highlighting that the two characters will work together against a bigger threat.
