Buddy Ebsen suffered a severe allergic reaction to the aluminum powder makeup used for the Tin Man character. Margaret Hamilton received second degree burns on her face and third degree burns on her hand when a trap door malfunctioned during a pyrotechnics scene. Several actors playing Winged Monkeys were injured when the piano wires suspending them snapped unexpectedly.
