The search for the next 007 has taken a surprising turn as Sydney Sweeney emerges as a potential candidate to succeed Daniel Craig. Since Craig finished his tenure with the 2021 release of No Time to Die, speculation regarding his replacement has been constant, but recent comments from director Paul Feig have introduced a bold new perspective.

The filmmaker, known for his work in the spy-comedy genre, recently shared his belief that the 28-year-old Euphoria star possesses the necessary intellect and work ethic to lead the legendary franchise.

Feig expressed his enthusiasm for a female-led iteration of the character during a conversation with The Sun, highlighting Sweeney’s professional reputation. He remarked, “I’d rather Sydney be the next Bond. There have been some cool Bond girls, but come on, let her be the super-spy, she’s great.”

He further praised her capabilities by adding, “She’s one of the hardest-working people I know, so professional, so smart, so savvy. I think she’d be a good spy.” While the casting for the lead remains unconfirmed, the musical side of the franchise is also seeing a shift in momentum.

Soul singer Olivia Dean has become a frontrunner to record the next theme song following her significant success at the BRIT Awards, where she dominated several major categories.

She currently shares the top of the betting odds with fellow artist RAYE, both of whom are positioned at 2/1 to join the ranks of past Bond vocalists like Adele and Billie Eilish. Regé-Jean Page, another long-standing favorite for the role, recently addressed the intense public interest in his potential casting.

The Bridgerton actor admitted to Esquire UK that the constant speculation can be overwhelming, describing the experience as quite surreal. He explained that he navigates the noise by staying grounded in his craft, noting, “It is strange, it’s not normal. How I navigate it is very much about what is useful, what serves me in my job… and a lot of that is just grounding.”

Sydney Sweeney has been maintaining a remarkably busy schedule, recently celebrating the massive success of her thriller The Housemaid, which earned nearly $400 million globally. She is currently preparing for the sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, which is slated for a December 2027 release and will see her star alongside Kirsten Dunst.

The Bond franchise itself is undergoing a major internal transition as Amazon MGM Studios assumes creative control from the Broccoli family for the first time in sixty years. While a release date has not been finalized, the involvement of such a high-caliber director suggests that the next chapter of 007 will be a significant cinematic event.

As the industry awaits official word on the next face of the franchise, the blend of traditional favorites and unexpected newcomers keeps the conversation alive.
