Meet the Robins of ‘Absolute Batman’ – First Look Revealed
DC’s new Absolute Universe has already shown new versions of characters like Bane, The Joker, Poison Ivy, and Mr. Freeze that feel very different from what fans know. Now, the creative team has revealed their version of Robin, and it’s not just one character. There are several, and they look nothing like people expected.
This new take on Robin comes from writer Scott Snyder, artist Nick Dragotta, and colorist Frank Martin. The reveal comes from DC’s preview of Absolute Batman #20, which first teased a cover with a large letter R. Now the full cover has been shown, and it gives a much clearer idea of what’s coming.
The image shows a whole group of Robins. At the center is a huge mech version of Robin, wearing red, black, and green armor and holding a massive gun. Behind that is another mech Robin with a blue and grey design. Below them are three smaller figures riding motorcycles, each wearing different colors like red, yellow, and green. It looks more like a squad or a team than a single sidekick.

This idea of multiple Robins might seem strange at first, but it actually connects to DC history. Over the years, there have been several characters who took on the Robin role, including Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne. Each one has their own fans, and this version seems to mix that idea into something new. However, these Robins don’t seem friendly. They look more like enemies than partners to Batman.
There are still a lot of unknowns. It’s not clear who these Robins really are or why they exist. What is known comes from the official description shared by DC, which hints at a bigger story tied to recent events in Gotham.
“As the dust settles in the city of Gotham after the loss of [redacted], Robins enter the scene ready to hunt and more than one secret will be revealed in this seminal issue.”
This suggests that something big has already happened, possibly the death of an important character, and these Robins are connected to it. They are not just showing up randomly. They have a purpose, and it sounds serious.
The designs themselves stand out right away. The use of mech suits and the group setup makes Batman look smaller than usual, which is not something fans often see. Outside of characters like Bane, Batman is usually the most intimidating figure in the room, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.
According to DC, Absolute Batman #20 will release on May 13. Fans won’t have to wait long to see how this version of Robin fits into the story and what role this team will play in Gotham.
