Ahsoka Season 2 Finally Has a Return Date, and the Wait Is Almost Over
Few corners of the Star Wars galaxy have kept fans as patient as ‘Ahsoka.’ Rosario Dawson’s live action take on the former Jedi turned wandering warrior has been a fixture of fan conversation ever since her debut series left its heroine stranded far from home, and the appetite for more has only grown louder with each passing month of silence.
That silence has stretched on for years now. The first season premiered back in August 2023, though the renewal for a second season was not officially confirmed until January 2024, with filming not taking place until 2025. The follow up season was recently delayed into 2027 after originally being scheduled to arrive before the end of this year.
That long wait finally has an endpoint. The official Star Wars account teased the news with the ominous line “war isn’t over” before confirming that ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 premieres January 20 exclusively on Disney Plus, a detail that lines up with what multiple outlets have now confirmed following Disney’s D23 event. A new teaser trailer was also revealed at the showcase, alongside an image of the Mortis Gods statues on the planet Peridea.
A brand new poster unveiled at D23 features Ahsoka the White in profile with her white lightsaber ignited, a massive spectral face looming behind her and red battle imagery running along the bottom. The season is set to run eight episodes and lands during the franchise’s 50th anniversary year.
Returning cast members include Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, Eman Esfandi, Ivanna Sakhno and Hayden Christensen. Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann has stepped into the role of Baylan Skoll, replacing the late Ray Stevenson. Costume reveals at D23 also pointed to a live action Clone Wars flashback featuring snow gear for both Anakin and a young Padawan Ahsoka.
Dawson herself teased the scale of what is coming next. Standing on stage alongside Christensen and Esfandi, she promised fans an even bigger story for her former Jedi, saying “This season is massive!” during the panel reported by Nerdvana.
The new footage shows Ahsoka getting a vision of Force Anakin as Grand Admiral Thrawn declares war on the Rebel Alliance, with Ahsoka gathering her friends to confront her past while fighting for a more peaceful future. The premiere also arrives just one month ahead of Star Wars: Starfighter’s May 2027 theatrical release, making early 2027 a packed stretch for the franchise.
