Marvel’s marketing machine has spent months turning Robert Downey Jr.’s villainous transformation into one of the studio’s most heavily promoted rollouts in recent memory, treating Doctor Doom’s design almost like a mystery box fans are slowly being allowed to unpack piece by piece. Every convention appearance has become another opportunity to reveal a bit more of what audiences can expect once the character finally hits the screen.

That promotional strategy continued this week, giving fans at one major convention a rare, up-close look at the villain’s costume in full physical form.

Doctor Doom’s armor is currently on display at the ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ booth at Fan Expo Canada, giving convention attendees a detailed look at the suit Robert Downey Jr. will wear as the film’s central antagonist. The display follows a pattern Marvel has leaned into heavily throughout the film’s marketing, having previously showcased the character’s costume at both the 2026 Disney Merchandise Expo in China and San Diego Comic-Con.

According to TheDirect’s coverage of the D23 Expo reveal, Marvel has also unveiled a second costume for the character, described as a more regal take on the classic design that hints at Doom’s origins as the ruler of Latveria. That formal look, distinct from the battle-ready armor most associated with the character, suggests the film will spend meaningful time establishing Doom’s backstory as a monarch before positioning him as the Multiverse Saga’s central threat.

The scale of Doom-focused promotion surrounding this film marks a notable shift for Marvel Studios. According to TheDirect’s reporting on the film’s D23 theater standee, the studio has pushed Downey Jr.’s villain “front and center” in promotional materials, an approach the outlet called “quite historic” given Marvel’s typical tendency to prioritize its heroes over antagonists in marketing campaigns.

That standee, spotted by fans at AMC theaters, shows Doom seated on his throne in Latveria, reinforcing the character’s status as the Eastern European nation’s absolute ruler. Marvel had previously displayed an empty version of that same throne at a Shanghai expo months earlier, building anticipation before finally revealing Downey Jr. actually occupying it.

Downey Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom initially caught fans off guard when it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, given his history as Tony Stark and widespread assumptions that any Marvel return would involve reprising his Iron Man role. Instead, the actor is taking on the role of Victor von Doom across both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and its follow-up, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ with Joe and Anthony Russo returning to direct both films as they close out the Multiverse Saga.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to bring together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men against Downey Jr.’s villain, this level of costume detail on display suggests Marvel is treating Doom’s introduction as one of the most significant character reveals in the franchise’s recent history. Given how consistently these convention displays have generated buzz, fans can likely expect even more granular looks at the character’s design as the film’s December 18 release date approaches.
