Denis Villeneuve’s journey through Frank Herbert’s universe is almost complete. ‘Dune: Part Three’ arrives in theaters on December 18, closing out a trilogy that has become one of the most acclaimed sci-fi sagas of the modern era. The story follows Emperor Paul Atreides as he struggles with the consequences of his holy war, while a conspiracy within his own circle threatens his reign.

The marketing campaign has been steadily building for months. The first teaser landed on March 17, offering a first look at Robert Pattinson’s villain Scytale, alongside 9 character posters. A fuller trailer followed on July 8, when Villeneuve and Timothée Chalamet unveiled new footage at an IMAX global fan event in Los Angeles.

Now Warner Bros. and Legendary are reportedly ready to close out the campaign. According to Film Updates, the final trailer for ‘Dune: Part Three’ will be released later today. No specific release time or runtime for the trailer has been confirmed.

The announcement arrived alongside striking new artwork. The image shows the Emperor seated atop a towering green throne at the top of a long stepped dais, beneath a vast golden dome, as hooded figures gather below.

Final trailers carry a special kind of weight. They arrive when the story is largely settled, and tickets are already on sale, giving studios one last chance to remind audiences why they need to be there on opening weekend.

The July trailer delivered the most comprehensive look yet at the finale. It highlighted Zendaya’s Chani, whose romance with Paul has grown complicated by his marriage to Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh. That footage also screened ahead of IMAX 70mm showings of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’.

The cast is stacked. Chalamet and Zendaya lead an ensemble that also includes Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Pattinson. Anya Taylor-Joy joins as Paul’s younger sister Alia after being teased at the end of ‘Dune: Part Two’.

Villeneuve has described the finale as more action-packed and tense than his previous films, focusing on Paul navigating life as a ruler with absolute power. Filming took place in locations including Budapest and Abu Dhabi.

Current AMC listings put the runtime at 2 hours and 30 minutes, making it the shortest film in the trilogy. Even so, more than half of the movie was filmed for IMAX, with 71 minutes presented in the format’s expanded aspect ratio.

That format will be a major draw. ‘Dune: Part Three’ holds an exclusive 3-week IMAX window, and early Dune Insider screenings begin on December 14 in IMAX 70mm before expanding to digital IMAX the following day.

The trailer drop comes just weeks before one of the biggest box office showdowns in years. ‘Dune: Part Three’ opens on the same day as ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, a clash fans have nicknamed Dunesday.

Early reports suggest Marvel leads in raw presales, while Villeneuve’s film dominates premium IMAX 70mm ticketing. London’s BFI IMAX already broke its first-day presale record with 33,000 tickets sold in 24 hours, and tracking points to a franchise-record opening of more than $100 million. With the final trailer on the way, fans are about to get one last glimpse of Arrakis before the saga reaches its conclusion.
