Is ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Longer Than ‘Endgame’? A New Alleged IMDb Runtime Listing Sparks Fan Debate

Few details about a Marvel blockbuster generate as much chatter as its runtime. For ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the Russo brothers’ first Avengers film since ‘Endgame’, that conversation has been going on for nearly a year, with fans eager to know how long they’ll spend watching the Avengers, New Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four battle Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

The stakes feel especially high because ‘Avengers: Endgame’ currently holds the record as the MCU’s longest film at 3 hours and 1 minute. Many fans have hoped the next team-up would match or surpass that epic length.

Now a new detail has reignited the debate. As MCU Fanatics shared, the official runtime for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is reportedly 3 hours and 20 minutes, according to the film’s IMDb listing.

The listing displays a PG-13 rating alongside the 3-hour, 20-minute runtime and names Anthony and Joe Russo as directors. It also features a synopsis describing heroes from 3 different worlds forced to unite against a catastrophic danger that could destroy everything they know.

If accurate, that would make ‘Doomsday’ the longest film in MCU history by a wide margin, beating ‘Endgame’ by nearly 20 minutes. However, the listing conflicts with nearly every other report about the film’s length. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed a runtime, and IMDb details for unreleased films are not always final.

Back in July, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film had a runtime of 165 minutes, or 2 hours and 45 minutes. That lines up with the 2-hour, 45-minute listing that AMC Theatres recently posted, and with test screening reports suggesting a runtime of roughly 2 hours and 50 minutes.

The Russos themselves have also pointed toward a shorter film. During a recent sit-down with Fandango, Anthony Russo described ‘Doomsday’ as roughly a 2-and-a-half-hour movie, a comment that surprised fans who had been hoping for something closer to ‘Endgame’.

The runtime has been the subject of wild speculation for months. Back in January, one account claimed the film would run 3 hours and 21 minutes, while another report suggested it could stretch close to 4 hours including credits.

Later reports claimed Marvel executives were working with an early cut running 3 hours and 30 minutes before aiming to trim it down. Scooper @MyTimeToShineH later reported the cut had settled at an acceptable 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Earlier this year, the Russos teased that the runtime would be substantial while still deep in the edit. When asked if it might exceed 3 hours, one of the directors simply said they hoped to make fans happy.

Opinions on the film’s length are divided. Some fans would welcome a shorter, tighter experience, while others worry that a sub-3-hour runtime could leave its massive ensemble underserved.

The length also matters for theaters, since longer films mean fewer showtimes per day. With ‘Dune: Part Three’ opening the same weekend and listed at 2 hours and 30 minutes, AMC has already noted that a double feature of both films would run more than 5 hours.

For now, the safest bet is that the official runtime will become clear once Marvel finalizes certification and theaters lock in their listings. Until then, the IMDb figure should be treated as unconfirmed. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18, and fans will soon find out exactly how long their journey into the multiverse will last.
