Convention panels have a way of pulling unexpectedly candid stories out of celebrities, and Jensen Ackles just delivered one of the most surprising of the season. The ‘Supernatural’ star’s latest fan event in Scotland produced a moment that had Johnny Depp’s name trending among ‘Supernatural’ fans all over again.

Ackles was one of the headline guests at Comic Con Scotland, which took over the Royal Highland Centre near Edinburgh on October 24 and 25. Demand for the actor, known for ‘Supernatural’, ‘Smallville’, ‘The Boys’ and ‘Dark Angel’, was so high that his tickets sold out ahead of the event.

During a panel alongside his longtime co-star Misha Collins, Ackles revealed that he had recently been woken up by a dream about Johnny Depp’s viral “mega pint” moment. Footage shared by Comic Con Scotland shows the actor reflecting on the clip with genuine admiration rather than simply laughing at it.

Ackles marveled at how Depp managed to communicate so much with so little in that brief exchange. He went on to say he appreciated what Depp did in that moment, describing that kind of instinct as a real gift.

The clip quickly spread online; fans sharing the footage joked that they finally knew what goes on inside Ackles’ head, and the answer apparently involves a mega pint and Johnny Depp.

For anyone who missed it at the time, the moment dates back to the Depp v. Heard defamation trial. On April 21, 2022, the seventh day of proceedings, one of Amber Heard’s attorneys asked Depp whether he had poured himself a “mega pint” of red wine, after jurors were shown a video Heard recorded of him yelling and slamming cabinets.

Depp repeated the phrase back with wry incredulity, drawing laughter from people in the courtroom, before clarifying that he had poured himself a large glass of wine. The attorney asking the question was Elaine Bredehoft.

The clip spread almost instantly. One upload of the exchange gained more than 7.2 million views in just over a week, inspiring a flood of memes throughout late April and May 2022.

The phrase quickly took on a life of its own beyond social media. Sellers on platforms like Etsy began offering “mega pint” mugs, wine glasses, prints, stickers and T-shirts, turning the exchange into one of the most commercialized moments of the trial.

Its staying power was clear enough that the moment was later featured in the 2023 docuseries ‘Depp V Heard’. The first episode, titled ‘Truth on Trial’, revisits the exchange as part of its look at how the case played out online.

Ackles’ dream confession was just one highlight of a busy weekend for the fandom. Comic Con Scotland’s lineup also included Collins and Mark Sheppard, alongside fellow ‘Supernatural’ alumni Jim Beaver, Rob Benedict, Ruth Connell, Mark Pellegrino and DJ Qualls.

The convention brought out plenty of other big names too, including William Shatner, David Harbour, Noah Schnapp and Jamie Campbell Bower. Still, judging by the reaction online, few moments traveled quite as far as Ackles’ unexpected tribute to Depp’s comedic timing. Fans won’t have to wait long for more of his convention stories either. Ackles is next scheduled to appear at Creation Chicago from November 6 to 8.
