’Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Closing in on Marvel’s Presale Records, and There Are Still 50 Days To Go
Marvel’s biggest crossover in years is shaping up to be a box office juggernaut before a single frame hits theaters. The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ presale story has been building since the summer, with each new milestone fueling talk of a potentially historic December opening.
It started with a bang. When premium-format tickets went on sale alongside the first trailer on July 20, the film generated $16.5 million on its first day, Variety reported, despite tickets only being available in about 1,000 domestic theaters, roughly twice the first-day haul of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.
Now the tracking firm Global Box Office reports that ‘Doomsday’ has crossed $65 million in domestic presales, with about 50 days left until its December 18 release. The account also shared a ranking of America’s biggest pre-release sales ever, led by ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ at $150 million, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $130 million, and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ at $78 million.
It’s worth noting the $65 million figure remains an unofficial estimate. The only domestic number Disney has confirmed is $50 million, and some observers have questioned this particular tracker’s estimates in the past.
AVENGERS: DOOMDAYS has now crossed $65M in domestic pre-sales, 50 days before its launch. America’s biggest pre-release sales ever: 1️⃣ SPIDER-MAN: BND — $150M (2026; SONY) 2️⃣ AVENGERS: ENDGAME — $130M (2019; Disney) 3️⃣ SPIDER-MAN: NWH — $78M (2021; SONY) https://t.co/Dx785cA1Bl

Disney CFO Hugh Johnston revealed the $50 million mark at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference, roughly 3 months before release. About 70% of that total was reportedly tied to the new Infinity Vision premium format.
Before that, ‘Doomsday’ became the first film ever to pass $40 million in North American presales around the 100-day mark. By comparison, ‘Brand New Day’ didn’t reach that level until roughly 40 days before opening, though it only began selling tickets about 45 days out.

There’s also a notable twist in the format story. ‘Doomsday’ won’t have access to IMAX, because ‘Dune: Part III’, which opens the same day, has the entire IMAX footprint exclusively for 3 weeks.
International demand has been just as fierce. ‘Doomsday’ became the fastest movie to pass $1 million in presales in both Brazil and the U.K., and Disney says it sold 118,000 tickets in its first 24 hours in Germany, beating the 105,000 sold by ‘Endgame’.

In the Netherlands, more than 50,000 tickets were sold within roughly a day, topping the previous ‘Endgame’ record of 42,000. Global Box Office reported that worldwide presales passed $100 million on October 6, with more recent reports placing the total around $125 million.
That’s the billion-dollar question. Global Box Office has projected a domestic debut between $260 million and $300 million, which would be enormous but still short of the $357.1 million opening of ‘Endgame’ and the $360 million debut of ‘Brand New Day’.
Others are more bullish, with some analysts openly wondering whether a first-ever $400 million domestic opening is in play. The heaviest selling window is still ahead, so there’s plenty of room for the numbers to climb.

Marvel isn’t letting up on the push, either. Fans who buy tickets through Fandango by November 9 are automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for 2 to the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film brings together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and the original X-Men to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom. With Doom fever spreading and presales still rising, December 18 can’t come soon enough for Marvel fans.
Do you think Avengers: Doomsday will break the all-time domestic opening weekend record?
