Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. Reunite in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo
With less than 2 months to go, Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ promo campaign has shifted into overdrive. Fresh footage has been arriving almost daily, and the latest spots are leaning hard on the biggest draw of all: Chris Evans back as Steve Rogers, opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
The reunion has been a long time coming. Evans had insisted to Esquire back in January 2025 that he was happily retired, before Marvel released a teaser on December 23, 2025, showing Steve riding a motorcycle to a rural house while carrying a baby, followed by a title card promising that Steve Rogers will return.
Now another new promo is making the rounds online, highlighting Evans and Downey alongside a striking image of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor gripping Mjolnir. It’s the latest in a flurry of footage built around the Avengers regrouping, and the God of Thunder’s complicated feelings about who else can lift his hammer.
That dynamic has quickly become the heart of the recent marketing. In a 30-second TV spot released days earlier, a long-haired Steve tells an offscreen Thor, “Let’s go” before summoning Mjolnir to his hand, while Thor warns that Doom will tear the world apart.
The spot closes with Steve holding up the hammer and asking whether it bothers Thor, prompting the reply, “You know it does.” Fans of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ will recognize the callback, since Steve finally wielded Mjolnir in that film after barely budging it in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.

The promo push kicked into a higher gear during Game 1 of the World Series on October 23. Marvel’s special preview saw Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic throw out the ceremonial first pitch to Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch, with MLB stars like Bryce Harper and Freddie Freeman joining in.
That sneak peek also featured Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man getting confused over who to call Captain America now that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson carries the shield. Downey’s cloaked Doom got the closing beat, reinforcing a campaign that has framed him as a threat bigger than Thanos.
Not everyone is impressed by the steady stream of teasers. Some fans have complained that much of the footage feels recycled, with one joking that they had now seen Doom stop Thor’s Stormbreaker with his fingers far too many times.

Others have found plenty to enjoy. Thor’s deadpan reaction to Ant-Man’s awkward “Cap” moment sparked a wave of memes, with viewers joking that the God of Thunder already looks done with his team.
The newest spot has also fueled theories. Eagle-eyed fans believe Steve’s hairline and nose look different from earlier footage, leading some to speculate that Loki might be impersonating him, though there’s no confirmation to support that idea.

The recent footage has offered a few other fresh glimpses too. One spot appears to show Thor using the Bifrost to transport his fellow Avengers, while Wyatt Russell’s John Walker joins Steve and Sam in a scene that puts 3 former Captain Americas in the same room.
Meanwhile, Downey’s Doom has remained largely absent from these newer clips, keeping the villain shrouded in mystery. The campaign has even included a scene of Drax staring up at a sky that appears to be exploding in fire.

Directed by the Russo brothers, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ brings together heroes from 3 universes, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. The film arrives in theaters on December 18, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027. With Steve and Thor reunited and Doom waiting in the wings, Marvel is clearly betting that nostalgia and new threats will pack theaters this holiday season.
