Sydney Sweeney Steps Into Millie’s Shoes Again on the New York Set of ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’
Few thrillers have taken off like ‘The Housemaid’, and its sequel is already generating buzz well before its release. The adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestseller became a major hit, earning nearly $400 million worldwide and making a follow-up an easy decision for Lionsgate.
That follow-up, ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’, officially began production in October. Lionsgate announced it with a short clip featuring a Lionsgate Stage 1 sign, and the cast and crew have since been spotted filming at several locations, including William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, and the streets of Hoboken.
The production has now moved into New York, where new photos show Sydney Sweeney on set. The images, shared by fans online, show the actress filming outside an elegant building with brass doors and a stone facade.
Sweeney appears relaxed and dressed down in a tan jacket, wide-leg blue jeans and a worn brown leather shoulder bag, with her long blonde hair in loose waves. In one shot, she smiles while walking through a doorway, and in another she stands on the sidewalk with her hands in her pockets.

The understated look fits Millie Calloway, the resourceful heroine Sweeney returns to play. The New York setting also matches the sequel’s story, which takes Millie to Manhattan to work for a wealthy family.
The sequel follows the events of McFadden’s second novel. Millie takes a job cleaning the penthouse of a tech executive whose wife stays locked away in a guest room, a woman she is never allowed to see.

As she grows more curious about what lies behind that locked door, she uncovers secrets that may be even darker than her own. Fans of the books know that McFadden loves a twist, and the sequel is expected to deliver more surprises.
Paul Feig returns as director and producer, with Rebecca Sonnenshine adapting the screenplay again after writing the first film. Sweeney is also producing. Sweeney is joined by several new faces. Kirsten Dunst plays Wendy Garrick, while Paul Anthony Kelly plays her husband, Douglas Garrick, the wealthy employer at the center of the mystery.

Brittany Snow plays Marybeth, and Stephen Kalyn plays Brock. Michele Morrone also returns as Enzo, connecting the sequel to the first film, though details about his role are still being kept under wraps.
Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, who played Nina and Andrew Winchester in the first film, aren’t part of the sequel novel, and their return hasn’t been announced. Seyfried has said she could imagine making a brief appearance.

Despite the excitement around these set photos, fans have a while to wait. Lionsgate has scheduled the sequel for a wide theatrical release on December 17, 2027, roughly 2 years after the original.

There’s no trailer, official first look, or detailed synopsis yet. Until then, glimpses from the set like these are the best way for fans to follow Millie’s next chapter. The first film’s success showed how strong the audience is for McFadden’s twisty thrillers.
With a bigger cast, a fresh New York setting, and the same creative team back, expectations for the follow-up are high. Sweeney’s return is the biggest draw. As production continues across New York and New Jersey, more set photos are likely to keep fans guessing about what Millie will uncover next.
