‘My Adventures With Green Lantern’ Hits a Key Production Milestone

The Green Lantern corner of the DC Universe has had a busy autumn. HBO’s live-action ‘Lanterns’ premiered on August 16, 2026, and ran for 8 episodes through October 4. Since then, fans have had plenty of time to debate what comes next for Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

The show’s early numbers gave them a lot to talk about. ‘Lanterns’ had one of the biggest launches on HBO Max and earned a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes, though HBO has yet to make an official renewal announcement. That leaves a gap for anyone who wants more green-ringed heroics in the meantime.

Enter a very different kind of Lantern story. Polygon’s tweet teases an “important update” for a new Green Lantern series, and the series in question is the animated ‘My Adventures With Green Lantern.’ DC Studios co-chair and co-CEO Peter Safran told Collider that the show will run for 10 half-hour episodes.

That detail puts the spinoff on familiar footing. The 10-episode, half-hour format matches that of its predecessor, ‘My Adventures With Superman.’ Safran also addressed how closely the two series are related in spirit.

Speaking to Collider, Safran gave fans a peek behind the curtain on where production stands. He said the team is currently reviewing animatics and animation on the series. In his words, “We’re in the stages of reviewing animatics and animation on that right now.”

For anyone wondering about the premiere, there is no date yet. DC Studios has not set a premiere date, but Safran’s comments confirm that production is moving forward smoothly behind the scenes. A fan-maintained wiki currently lists a 2027 run, but that detail should be treated as unofficial until DC says otherwise.

The spinoff centers on Jessica Cruz, and the cover art in Polygon’s post shows her in full power-ring mode. The story follows Jessica as a Green Lantern Power Ring chooses her to become its champion, pulling her into conflict with alien threats connected to an ancient war involving the Lanterns. It is a very different tone from the murder investigation at the heart of the live-action show.

Auliʻi Cravalho, best known for voicing Moana, will voice Jessica. The character made her debut in Season 3 of ‘My Adventures With Superman,’ which paved the way for her own adventure. That setup suggests the new series will feel like a natural extension of a world fans already know.

Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher, who worked on the Superman series, will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Their involvement should reassure viewers who loved the original show’s mix of heart, humor and superhero spectacle. The creative continuity may be the strongest argument that the spinoff is in good hands.

The project is not new, either. It was announced at a DC Studios press event that revealed the breadth of the studio’s slate, where it was described as a Jessica Cruz-starring animated series set in the world of ‘My Adventures With Superman.’ Now that the episode count is official and animation is under review, the series feels much closer to reality than it did a year ago.

For DC fans, the timing is almost perfect. ‘Lanterns’ has left viewers hungry for more Green Lantern lore, and a younger, more adventurous take on the Corps could fill that space nicely. Until DC drops a trailer or a release window, the animatics Safran mentioned remain the best sign yet that Jessica Cruz’s story is coming together.
