Japan has quickly become one of the most enthusiastic stops on Doctor Doom’s world tour. In recent weeks, the country has hosted a Doom statue in the lobby of 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City and a towering seated Doom photographed outside a modern building, all building up to the release of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

Marvel has been gearing up for this moment for months. Back in September, the studio invited fans to sign up for a special parade, welcoming participants in Avengers and other Marvel costumes, with Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Deadpool outfits all encouraged.

That parade has now taken over central Tokyo. Video shared by MCU Film News shows a line of figures in long green hooded cloaks marching down a wide city street, some waving green flags as crowds gather along the sidewalks to watch.

The procession was part of the 53rd Nihonbashi-Kyobashi Festival on Sunday, November 1. It covered about 1.4 kilometers of Chuo-dori, running from Kyobashi to Nihonbashi. Around 280 people took part.

Japanese outlet Cinema Today reported that the lineup included professional cosplayers, Marvel fans chosen by lottery, and the brass band from Hachioji Gakuen Hachioji High School.

The parade’s centerpiece was a massive Doctor Doom float. Standing about 4.5 meters tall and 4 meters long, and weighing roughly 1.5 tons, it recreates Doom seated on his throne as seen in the film’s trailer.

Behind it marched about 60 cloaked members of the “Doom Corps,” carrying Avengers flags. Cosplayers dressed as Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Doom, Cyclops, and Spider-Man led the way and interacted with spectators.

The marching band added to the spectacle, playing the Avengers theme and the Marvel Studios fanfare. A giant “Doomsday” version of the Avengers logo also appeared in the lineup.

The day also brought a new face to Marvel’s Japanese campaign. Nobu, one half of the comedy duo Chidori, was introduced as the film’s newest ambassador at a kickoff ceremony at the TODA Building plaza in Kyobashi.

He follows actor Yuki Yamada and Koji Mukai of Snow Man in the role. Nobu first appeared in a masked costume among the Doom Corps before revealing himself in a nod to Robert Downey Jr.’s own unmasking, then unveiled the float by pressing a switch.

Nobu called himself a huge Avengers fan and said that much of his comedy draws on the franchise. During the parade, he used a megaphone to introduce himself as the new ambassador and urged everyone to see the film in theaters, as fans along the route called out his name.

According to Japanese reports, the Doom float made its debut in Kyobashi and is set to tour Japan in the coming weeks. That should give even more fans across the country a chance to see the villain’s throne up close.

Marvel chose to join an established local festival rather than stage a separate event. That decision helped bring the film’s promotion directly to the crowds already enjoying one of the city’s traditional celebrations.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in Japan on December 18, the same day as its US release, with Walt Disney Japan handling distribution. It’s the first Avengers film in theaters in 7 years, following ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The film brings together the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four to face Downey’s Doom. Judging by the turnout in Tokyo, Japanese fans are more than ready.
