Doctor Doom Crosses His Arms and Stares Down Fans in a New Look at Japan’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Statue
Marvel has spent months making Doctor Doom hard to miss, and the latest Doctor Doom statue for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in Japan shows how far the campaign has gone. Ahead of the film’s December release, Robert Downey Jr.’s villain has shown up in posters, merchandise and themed displays in several countries. Statues, throne replicas and life-size figures have appeared in theater lobbies and expo halls around the world.
Japan has become one of the busiest stops on that tour. The country already has a Doom statue in the lobby of 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City, put up as part of a decoration event themed around the eve of ‘Doomsday’. Fans also photographed a much larger Doom sitting on a throne beside a modern building, though coverage hasn’t said exactly where it stands.
Now fans have a much closer view of one of these displays. On November 7, MCU Film News shared new photos of the Doctor Doom statue, credited to the fan account @G57Av. The close-ups show Doom standing tall with his arms crossed, in front of a green-lit panel with the film’s Japanese logo, with a rope barrier in front of him.
The close-ups show how much work went into the figure. Doom wears his signature dark green hooded cloak and a battered metal mask, with a thick chain across his armored chest and round emblem plates on his shoulders. You can see small scuffs on the mask and the stitching on the cape, details that would be easy to miss from a distance.

He stands on a base marked with a circular, glowing pattern, and the green backdrop makes the whole setup feel like a stage built just for the ruler of Latveria. Fans can take photos from the front or stand beside him. With his arms folded and his gaze straight ahead, Doom looks less like a movie prop and more like a monarch receiving visitors.

The display has grown since it first appeared. Three Latverian Witches from the film were later added beside the statue, according to a fan post on X. The masked trio has been one of the film’s biggest mysteries since Marvel showed their costumes at San Diego Comic-Con, and so far the studio has confirmed only that the coven exists and is connected to Latveria.

The statues aren’t the only part of Japan’s promotional push. Doom also took over central Tokyo with a parade led by a giant float about 4.5 meters tall and weighing roughly 1.5 tons. About 60 cloaked members of the so-called Doom Corps marched behind it, carrying Avengers flags.

Fans clearly noticed. Under one of the earlier statue posts, a fan joked that most of the film’s posters and promos barely feature any Avengers at all and focus almost entirely on Doom. Japan also has a local connection to the character: Downey announced in a promo video that Tomoyuki Morikawa will be Doom’s Japanese voice.
The rollout reaches well beyond Japan. A giant replica of Doom’s throne appeared at an expo in Shanghai before traveling to the Philippines, and Argentina showed a glowing green Doom figure in a glass case. Collectors can buy their own version, too. Iron Studios and Sideshow have released a 1:10 scale ‘Doctor Doom on Throne’ statue priced at $249.99, along with a quarter-scale Legacy Replica about 68 centimeters tall.

Japanese fans won’t have long to wait for the real thing. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in Japan on December 18, the same day as its US release, with Walt Disney Japan handling distribution. Anthony and Joe Russo direct the film, which brings together the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers and X-Men to face Downey’s Doom.
It’s also the first Avengers movie in theaters in 7 years, since ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The story continues in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which follows on December 17, 2027. For now, this stern-faced statue gives fans in Japan an up-close preview of the villain at the center of it all.
