Ana de Armas Broke into Tears While Filming a Particular Scene in ‘Ballerina,’ and It Involves a… Flame Thrower

As far as action franchises go, John Wick is certainly one that will go down in history. What started off as an ambitious revenge flick starring Keanu Reeves became one of the best action franchises of all time.
And while the main series is on a hiatus, a major spin-off movie is coming soon. Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, is hitting theaters on June 6, 2025 and the movie’s star recently talked to the press about the movie.
In a major interview, de Armas revealed her sentiments about the movie and a very emotional, behind-the-scenes moment that involved an object that you would rarely associate with crying.
As you might expect, Ballerina is going to show us a lot intense scenes on the screen, but it seems that filming one of them was intense even behind the scenes. “It was really emotional,” de Armas recalls during the interview.
The scene in question involves a flame thrower, i.e., a scene in which de Armas’ character has to use a flame thrower to burn a character, i.e., a stuntman. And filming of the scene was quite difficult for the actress. “I’ve never seen anyone burning, even though it’s fake,” she said.
“I remember the first day the stunt team was practicing with the fire, and they told me to go do it before the shoot, and I said, ‘No, no, no, I’ll be fine,'” she said to the stunt team, sure of herself. Still, she agreed to practice. “They got the main fire guy that gets burned, and he’s all covered in this sticky grease or whatever they put for protection, and they’re like, ‘Okay, go ahead. Just burn him.’ And I did, and I started crying.”
Ultimately, of course, she managed to film the scene without crying. “Then I was fine,” de Armas added. “Then I burned like a hundred people. I’m glad I practiced the day before, and I cried the day before. But it’s amazing to see what [the stunt performers] do — I can’t believe you guys put yourself through this. It’s unbelievable.”
