Armin vs Eren: Who Wins in Attack on Titan?
Comparing characters from Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan is somewhat difficult, mainly because most of these characters are essentially different and are not easily comparable. Even the Titans themselves are very difficult to compare. In this article, we are going to do one such comparison, as we are going to determine who would win in a fight between Amin Arlert and Eren Yeager. Both of them possessed Titans, which made our job a bit easier, but not by much. Definitely keep reading to find out.
While Armin would be able to put up a good fight, Eren would ultimately win against him in a battle. Eren is mostly overpowered, that cannot be denied, and he has a total of three Titans in his possession, including the extremely powerful Founding Titan, who could easily control Armin’s Colossal Titan, which would be enough for a win.
The rest of this article will further elaborate on the above-given answer, as we are going to compare Armin Arler’s and Eren Yeager’s Titan powers in more detail. We are going to present the two characters and their powers, with the goal to determine who the stronger of the two is and why our answer is like it is, i.e., why Eren would ultimately be able to defeat Armin in a direct fight, despite the fact that both of them have Titans in their possessions.
Armin Arlert and the Colossal Titan
Armin Arlert is an elite soldier of the Survey Corps and a childhood friend of Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman. Although Armin is not in the top 10 cadets of the 104th Survey Corps, his intelligence and strategic genius make him one of the most valuable fighters in the Survey Corps, especially when paired with Hange Zoe. After the Battle of Shiganshina, he received the power of Bertholt Hoover’s Titan and became a Colossal Titan.
Human abilities
Being one of the physically weakest soldiers in the Human army, he is rarely assigned to the front line and is rarely seen using his VME for combat. His main strength, however, lies in his intelligence: innate abilities of deduction and training strategies, whether in a war room or on the fly, as well as an eye for picking up obscure details.
He is a remarkable outfield tactician, a trait only he displays among current rookies. His strategies have helped save his comrades numerous times and most remarkably, he is the key person who deduced the identities of all of the hostile Titan Shifters among the current recruits. He was unable to display his remarkable intelligence earlier due to a severe lack of self-confidence.
After recognizing that he is actually much more useful than he thought, his genius as a tactician began to show and to this day, even commanders are shown to take his titan opinions seriously.
Colossal Titan
Armin acquired the power of the Titans, specifically the Colossal Titan, after Levi injected him with the Titan serum and he consumed Bertolt shortly thereafter. Like any other heir to the Force, this gives him the ability to recover from most fatal injuries (unless his weak spot in the neck is damaged without transferring his mind to the rest of his nervous system) and to freely transform between Titan and human form while retaining his intelligence. His powers include:
- Explosive Transformation: Armin can unleash a massive explosion when he transforms into his Titan. He used this to great effect during the raid on Liberio, devastating the Marleyan Navy with his transformation and sending massive shockwaves inland.
- Increased Strength: Armin’s Colossus Titan possesses immense size and strength that can crush entire battleships. Despite this innate strength, it is unable to match the superior technology of an equally sized opponent and is forced to go on the defensive.
- Regeneration: Like all others with the power of the Titans, Armin has the ability to regenerate any injury he suffers. This is demonstrated when Armin rebuilds all of his charred skin and later recovers from severe gunshot wounds in just a few hours.
- Steam Emission: Armin’s Colossus Titan has the ability to generate enormous amounts of steam at once, like previous users of the Colossus Titan.
Eren Yeager and the Attacking Titan, the War Hammer Titan, and the Founding Titan
Eren Yeager is the main character of the story. He was a member of the Survey Corps. Eren possessed the powers of the Founding Titan, the War Hammer Titan, and the Attacking Titan. During the attack of the Armored and Colossal Titans in 845, Eren saw with his own eyes how his mother was eaten by a smiling Titan.
This event caused Eren to sincerely hate the titans and vowed to destroy them all. After 3 years of diligent training and education, Eren took fifth place in the top of the best graduates. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin later joined the Survey Corps after the Battle of Trost.
Attacking Titan
Eren’s Attacking Titan was 15 meters tall, with shoulder-length black hair, pointed ears, and a huge mouth. Due to his intelligence, Eren was able to easily defeat common Titans. Though initially, he has little control over his actions as he acts unconsciously, though he eventually seems to have gained control over his Titan status.
His Titan form, coupled with his growing experience and close combat skills, allowed him to kill over twenty Titans in his first transformation and subsequently fight the Armored Titan. In order to transform, Eren needs to take physical damage in addition to having a clear objective in mind to be able to perform the transformation; Eren can also partially transform.
Eren developed the ability to harden and/or crystallize his entire body after ingesting a serum where he was written “armored”. Said power allowed him to prevent the collapse of the roof under Rod Reiss’s chapel, and even serves to cover the breach in Wall Maria. He can also harden parts of his body like his fists. This can be seen in his fight with the Armored Titan in Shiganshina. Being the owner of the Attacking Titan, Eren is able to see his own memories from the future, which until now has only happened after kissing Historia Reiss’s hand after the recovery of the Shiganshina District.
War Hammer Titan
Eren acquired this power after devouring its previous owner, so his hardening abilities must have increased. No other enhancements were present.
Founding Titan
Eren holds the power of the Founding Titan in his hands, which he inherited from his father after having devoured him. The first time he used it, was when she unconsciously sent a horde of Titans to attack the Titan that devoured his mother. Four years later, Eren managed to take control of the Founding Titan after making contact with Ymir Fritz’s soul in the Paths, allowing him to perform the Rumbling after freeing the Colossal Titans from the walls.
Armin vs Eren: Who would win?
And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.
As one can see, Eren is the absolute winner here. Although Armin definitely has both the skills and the resolve, he doesn’t have the power to beat out Eren in direct combat. Namely, Eren was in control of a total of three Titans, including the dreaded Founding Titan, while Armin only had the Colossal Titan at his disposition. With the Founding Titan, Eren surpasses all other Titans in the franchise.
Armin’s Colossal Titan might have beaten out Eren early in the franchise, since Armin was a truly skilled fighter, but when Eren actually obtained the powers of the Founding Titan, Armin had no chance of succeeding in this fight. Eren is simply more powerful and the Founding Titan has the ability to control all the other Titans, which is more than enough for Eren to defeat Armin.
This is why, ultimately, we gave this one to Eren Yeager and not Armin.
