The standalone Batgirl film has been in development for quite a while at DC and Warner Bros. And after years of development hell, the production has finally wrapped, as directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah recently announced. Adil El Arbi also posted on his official Instagram account a new image with Leslie Grace wearing a suit of the titular character, which gives us another look at DCEU’s Batgirl.

The Batgirl movie has been in development since 2016 when Joss Whedon was hired to write and direct. Whedon stepped down from the project following the controversial reshoots of the Justice League movie, and the Batgirl project has been on the ice until 2021 when Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah signed to direct, and Leslie Grace was cast to play the titular character.

J.K. Simmons signed to return as James Gordon, reprising his role from 2017’s Justice League and 2021’s director’s cut Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Michael Keaton will play Bruce Wayne/Batman, reprising the role from Tim Burton’s Batman movies, and The Flash movie in which he’ll also star next June. Doom Patrol star Brendan Fraser is set to play the movie’s villain — Firefly.

The movie was first revealed last October at the DC FanDome event. The production started in November 2021, and it wrapped on March 31, 2022. Following the production wrap, directors shared the mentioned new look at the character and warned us to stay tuned for further news because there’s still about this movie to be found out.

Batgirl is expected to be released exclusively on HBOMax next December. But, there’s a timeline-regarding problem because The Flash movie, which is set in the DCEU timeline before Batgirl, was recently delayed from November 2022 to June 2023, so there’s a question if Batgirl will keep its current release window.
