Beau DeMayo Alleges Troubling Pattern at Marvel; Marvel Responds with Claims of “Egregious” Findings: “we severed ties with him immediately”

X-Men ’97 proved to be an unexpected success for Marvel Studios, largely thanks to Beau DeMayo, who created the show. However, behind the scenes, drama was unfolding. Just weeks before the premiere of the first season, DeMayo was dismissed, and neither he nor the company has provided an explanation for his termination.
Reports have suggested that DeMayo was difficult to work with, with some insiders pointing to his non-NSFW OnlyFans channel as a factor. However, recent revelations indicate that the issue may be more serious than initially assumed. Despite his regular social media interactions with fans during the first season of X-Men ’97, DeMayo has remained largely silent about his former employer. He had previously stated that he wrote most of season 2, but recent news has emerged that his scripts have been significantly revised.
A few days ago, DeMayo revealed that he was not invited to the Emmy Awards ceremony despite X-Men ’97 being nominated. Following Disney’s negative headlines due to a highly publicized wrongful death lawsuit, DeMayo criticized his former employer, suggesting that such behavior was typical of a company like Disney.
It seems DeMayo might be on the verge of revealing more, as he recently posted an image on social media of Cyborg reimagined as a gay man in celebration of Pride Month.
DeMayo claims that he was informed of his credits being removed from season 2 immediately after sharing the photo. Many fans have speculated that the company may be discriminating against DeMayo due to his openly gay identity.
This situation seems particularly ironic given Disney’s recent criticism for promoting LGBTQ themes and other “woke” issues. Given Disney and Marvel’s focus on public image, it’s not surprising that the exact reason for DeMayo’s firing is now coming to light. However, the revelations do not appear to be favorable for DeMayo.
Following DeMayo’s social media post, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that a Marvel spokesperson issued a statement:
Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.
Sources suggest that after DeMayo’s departure, an agreement was reached concerning his tweets about the show, which he continued despite prior warnings. His credit for season two was later removed. While specific details about the termination and internal reviews remain undisclosed, the issue reportedly involved sexual misconduct.
DeMayo has not elaborated on these matters but left a cryptic message on his social media:
This situation is clearly very complicated, and DeMayo’s incomplete account has led fans to speculate that he was fired due to his sexuality, though the true circumstances may be far more troubling.
