John Cena may have started out his career as a WWE superstar and arguably the best wrestler in the history of the company, but he has since branched out of the ring and has made it to the big screens. Now a major movie star, John Cena has as many movies as the number of titles he won in WWE. That said, we are here to rank 20 of John Cena’s best movies.
20. Dolittle (2020)
Dolittle is a movie that sees John Cena playing a supporting role as the voice of one of the animals that Doctor Dolittle works with. And, surprise, John Cena voices Yoshi, who is a warmhearted and very chill polar bear.
While Cena’s role may only be small in Dolittle, this is still a fun movie to watch with your kids, especially because it is about animals and a doctor that can actually talk to them.
19. Fred: The Movie (2010)
Fred: The Movie is one of the movies that portrayed John Cena in a minor role, as he was still trying to make a name for himself as an actor at this point in his career. Of course, he was also more focused on his career as a wrestler back then.
In Fred: The Movie, John Cena portrays the role of Fred’s odd always-shirtless father. The movie focuses on Fred, who is in love with the girl next door named Judy. But when Judy moves out of town, Fred goes on a quest to find her in the hopes that his feelings will be reciprocated.
18. Vacation Friends (2021)
Vacation Friends is another one of the movies that showcase John Cena’s prowess in comedy. Despite the fact that we have seen him in action movies, he has always been better in comedy films, as Vacation Friends is another film that shows how funny he can be.
This movie focuses on a couple who went on a week without inhibitions as they enjoyed their life before getting married. During that week, they met Ron (John Cena) and Kyla, who gave them a fantastic week without inhibitions. But they were surprised when they saw Ron and Kyla showing up to their wedding uninvited.
17. F9: The Fast Saga (2021)
You might be wondering why John Cena’s performance in F9: The Fast Saga is ranked as low as it does on this list. Well, for starters, that’s because he doesn’t play a leading role in this film. But, most importantly, there might be too many Fast and Furious movies already.
Regardless, F9: The Fast Saga focuses on the Toretto family, as Dom is forced to confront the sins of his past so that he can keep his family safe. Of course, one of the people threatening to put Dom and his family in danger is Dom’s forsaken younger brother, portrayed by John Cena himself.
16. Fighting With My Family (2019)
The truth is that Fighting With My Family only involves John Cena in a very minor role as himself. This is, after all, the true-to-life story of former WWE wrestler Paige and her tight-knit wrestling family in the UK.
This film revolves around how Paige and her brother Zak were able to get an opportunity to try out for the WWE after seeing quite a bit of success wrestling in the UK. But when Paige earns the spot she has long dreamed of, she is forced to leave behind her loved ones, who were always there with her on her road to success. Of course, Cena makes an appearance in this true-to-life movie.
15. Legendary (2010)
Legendary is an inspiring story that sees John Cena as the main character but not the leading star of the movie. This is a coming-of-age story that focuses on the growth of a teenager with the help of John Cena’s character.
The movie focuses on a scrawny teenager who joins his high school’s wrestling team. He did so hoping that his estranged brother, who John Cena plays, would be the one who would help train him to success.
14. The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown (2015)
A year after John Cena and some WWE superstars lent their voices to an animated film, they did it again. This time, they join forces with the Flintstones in the movie The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown.
In this animated film, Fred Flinstone and the rest of the gang meet John Cenastone, played by John Cena, of course. Fred and his friends decide that they want to learn how to fight, and that is where they try to get help from Cenastone and the rest of the WWE wrestlers.
13. Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery (2014)
While John Cena was still at the height of his wrestling prowess as the face of the WWE during the earlier half of the 2010s, he didn’t have a lot of movie roles. However, he still lent his voice in the kid-friendly Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery movie, which stars other WWE superstars such as Kane himself.
The movie revolves around Shaggy and Scooby winning tickets to see the WWE live. All five of Mystery Inc. go, but they are attacked by a ghost bear. John Cena is one of the wrestlers who helped the gang solve the mystery.
12. Daddy’s Home 2 (2017)
John Cena was also in the first Daddy’s Home film, but he was an unnamed character that only made a cameo appearance. However, in Daddy’s Home 2, he now has a bigger role, although he still is a supporting character.
The movie follows the story of Brad and Dusty, the same characters from the first movie, as they bring their families along for a holiday celebration. John Cena makes an appearance as the biological father of Dusty’s step-daughter, as the two dads clash in a comedic way in this hilarious film.
11. The Marine (2006)
The Marine is John Cena’s first true billing as a leading star for a movie. This movie also coincided with his rise as the new face of the WWE during the latter half of the 2000s, when he became one of the most popular wrestlers in the industry.
This film actually has a pretty cliché plot that revolves around Cena’s character going on a Terminator-like warpath after his wife got kidnapped. And the reason we call him a Terminator in this movie is that the film was able to showcase his physical abilities really well.
10. Playing With Fire (2019)
Playing With Fire might not be one of the best movies that John Cena has had recently. You could forgive him for some of the subpar movies that he had early in his career, but this one should have been better. Nevertheless, it still takes a good look at Cena’s comedic side as an actor playing the role of a firefighter who was tasked to take on tough babysitting duty.
So, while Playing With Fire might not be the best movie you would want to watch if you want to see an amazing film, it should still be able to provide some laughs and entertainment for the family to watch.
9. Sisters (2015)
Sisters is another one of those movies where John Cena only plays a supporting role. However, despite the fact that he isn’t a starring character, Cena was able to showcase his versatility as an actor because, prior to this movie, he was usually billed in the stereotype action hero film, just like how Dwayne Johnson started out.
The movie focuses on twin sisters portrayed by real-life friends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Considering that you know where those actresses excel, it goes without saying that this film takes on a comedic approach about the twins throwing a party out of anger at their childhood home being sold. And John Cena makes an appearance as a drug dealer in what is a hilarious role.
8. 12 Rounds (2009)
12 Rounds was one of John Cena’s first acting gigs when he was still at the very height of his popularity as the face of the WWE. This is also one of the films that really showcased Cena’s acting skills, although he was still improving as an actor at this part of his career.
The movie revolves around Cena’s character, named Danny Fisher, who discovers that his girlfriend was kidnapped by an-con. To secure her release, Fisher needs to complete 12 different challenges in this tense film that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
7. Ferdinand (2017)
John Cena’s best voice-acting role is in the film Ferdinand, which showcases his versatility as an actor. This is one of his best and most fantastic voice-acting performances because we were able to truly connect with Ferdinand through the voice of one of the most talented talkers in the history of the WWE.
Ferdinand is actually based on a children’s book that talks about a bull who would rather smell flowers than engage in bullfights. In that sense, this animated movie follows the same premise, as Ferdinand is a kindhearted bull who is both vibrant and heartwarming. This is an amazing animated film that kids and adults alike will love.
6. The Wall (2017)
While John Cena has recently taken comedy roles, The Wall is the best example of how actors with his build are usually billed in movies. Despite the fact that he is perfect for the role of a soldier due to his size and build, The Wall is actually a good movie that is worth the watch.
John Cena plays the role of an American sniper in this film. However, he and the other soldiers in the movie got trapped in Iraq. It’s an action-thriller that can be quite tense because you don’t know what will happen next, as every move could be any character’s last one.
5. The Suicide Squad (2021)
The Suicide Squad is one of the latest blockbuster movies on John Cena’s list of films. Although The Suicide Squad didn’t succeed in terms of its box office performance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is arguably the best DC live-action film due to its over-the-top action and ridiculous brand of comedy.
John Cena plays the role of Peacemaker, who he played so perfectly that he earned himself a spin-off Peacemaker series. Peacemaker is one of the criminals chosen to be a member of Task Force X or the Suicide Squad in a mission that involved destabilizing an island nation run by a dictator.
4. Trainwreck (2015)
Trainwreck is the first major blockbuster movie that John Cena was part of, but he wasn’t in it as a leading actor. Still, the best part about his involvement in this movie is that it allowed us to see just how good John Cena can be in a comedy film. And this opened up more roles for him in comedy movies, even though someone of his size would usually be billed for action movies.
John Cena is a supporting character in Trainwreck. But thanks to his over-the-top performance as a gym addict obsessed with toning and creating the perfect body, he is so hilarious. Of course, the best thing about him is how vocal he is about sex and how he was able to deliver it in the funniest way possible.
3. Tour De Pharmacy (2017)
Tour De Pharmacy isn’t the most well-known John Cena film, despite the fact that Cena himself is a megastar. The reason is that this is a television movie that didn’t see the theaters. However, you will still love this movie because of how hilarious it is, as it was able to put together a film that John Cena, Orlando Bloom, and Andy Samberg.
Even though the movie focuses on a mature topic such as doping in the world of competitive cycling, Tour De Pharmacy was able to deliver it in a way that is comedic and quite over-the-top with its approach. This is what makes it one of the funniest movies that Cena has ever been on.
2. Blockers (2018)
Blockers may not be as big as Bumblebee in terms of its overall budget, but this is an amazing film that allows you to see John Cena playing a more mature role as a father. In a sense, he is in a different role here because you don’t see him playing an action hero or someone whose muscles are usually in focus. Instead, he is just a plain father in the suburbs.
In this film, John Cena is one of the overprotective parents who raised a teenage girl in this coming-of-age comedy. Cena’s daughter in the movie, as well as her friends, planned to lose their virginity on prom night. This prompted Cena and the other overprotective parents to try to put a stop to the girls’ plans by basically cock-blocking them.
1. Bumblebee (2018)
If you look at critical reception, Bumblebee is without a doubt John Cena’s best acting performance as a leading character. Of course, while the spotlight shines on the popular Transformers member, Bumblebee, Cena is still one of the leading actors in a movie that is all about a CGI-made transforming car.
In this movie, John Cena is one of the leading humans in a film that focuses on a robot. He plays Jack Burns, who ends up helping Bumblebee, despite the fact that he was originally unsure of the alien robot’s objectives. In that sense, even though Cena started off as an enemy in this film, he is basically an anti-hero in one of his best action movies and first true blockbuster film.
