Black Ops 7 Skips Switch 2 for Now, Despite Microsoft-Nintendo Deal

It looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 won’t be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 just yet. Even though Microsoft and Nintendo signed a deal over two years ago to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players, there’s still no sign of the series on Nintendo’s consoles.

The new Black Ops game is heading to last-gen systems like PlayStation 4, but not to any version of the Switch.

According to a report from Kotaku, both Microsoft and Nintendo are still working on bringing the franchise to the Switch 2. It’s not clear what’s causing the delay, but sources close to the situation say both companies are still committed to making it happen.

Back in February 2023, Microsoft president Brad Smith said, “Microsoft and Nintendo have now negotiated and signed a binding 10-year legal agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players—the same day as Xbox, with full features and content parity—so they can experience Call of Duty just as Xbox and PlayStation games enjoy Call of Duty.”

This deal came during the time when Microsoft was trying to get approval for its massive $70 billion buyout of Activision Blizzard. To ease concerns from regulators, Microsoft promised not to make Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox.

That’s why they also made agreements with other companies, including Sony, saying the games would stay multiplatform for at least ten years.

But now, even though Black Ops 7 is set to launch on consoles like PS4, there’s still no sign of it coming to Switch 2, even though that new system is said to be just as powerful as the PS4. Fans are left wondering why it hasn’t been announced.

Call of Duty hasn’t been on a Nintendo system since Ghosts came to the Wii U in 2013. The performance wasn’t great back then, but at least it gave players a way to play the game. Some people think the new games might be released through cloud streaming, especially since Black Ops 6 is available to stream with Game Pass Ultimate.

But so far, that method hasn’t been used to bring any Call of Duty games to Nintendo platforms.

Black Ops 7 also isn’t the only Microsoft game missing from the Switch 2. Titles like Sea of Thieves and Grounded are still not available, even though they’ve already made their way to PlayStation 5. That could mean Microsoft isn’t planning to bring them to Nintendo just yet—or maybe Nintendo wants to announce those plans on its own schedule.

For now, the wait continues. But according to Kotaku’s sources, Microsoft and Nintendo are still working together and could have news to share “soon.”
