Bleach: What Happens to Kon? Will He Survive?

Kon is the unofficial mascot of the Bleach franchise. The always angry and inappropriately perverted breast-lover in the shape of a plushie lion became one of the series’ most recognizable and popular characters. While not everyone liked Kon, it cannot be denied that he is still a major part of Bleach’s lore and that it is only natural that fans want to know what happened to him. In this article, we will answer that question for you, as you will find out whether Kon survived in Bleach.
Kon has been a mascot for the series ever since his debut
Kon is short for Kaizō Konpaku, which in turn means Modified Soul in Japanese. This is how we started the article because Kon is a Modified Soul. Although he has been a mascot-like supporting character from the beginning of the series, as the plot progressed, Kon became less and less present. However, he did get some time to shine in the anime filler arcs, especially the Gotei 13 Invading Army filler arc, which could easily be described as Kon’s arc. In this article, we will tell you all about Kon and his story.
As for Kon’s personality, we have to say that he was a very specific character. When he first enters Ichigo’s body, he causes a lot of mischief and uses the schoolboy’s body to make Ichigo look bad, and he does not even care about it. Being a Konpaku and a lucky survivor of Project Spearhead, Kon really cherished freedom over anything, so when he got into Ichigo’s body, he saw a chance for himself. Eventually, he was transferred to his lion plushie body when he was stopped.
Besides that, Kon can get significantly angry in a very short period, but since he is a plush lion most of the time, people mostly ignore his tantrums, suggesting that they don’t care if he has them. Also, as a plushie, he is easy to control in such a situation, so people don’t often stress themselves when Kon has one of his famous outbursts. Also, he can sometimes act selfishly and do what it takes to make himself feel good.
He is also quite perverted and likes girls, especially those with large breasts; just seeing a nice-looking girl can make Kon go completely crazy. Because of this, he liked Rangiku and Orihime a lot and always looked for an excuse to be with them.
On the other hand, Kon has proven himself to be extremely loyal and very emphatic when needed. Despite fighting with them often, he deeply cared for Ichigo and his friends (especially Orihime and Rukia) and was ready to do what it took to help them. This shows that despite his overall role in the story, Kon is a layered character that deserves some attention. Now that we’ve gone over this let us discuss his actual story.
What happens to Kon?
Kon is a Modified Soul, an experiment by Soul Society researchers who wanted to create a Gikongan that not only serves as a placeholder for the Shinigami’s Gigai, but can also support it in battle. However, after these Mod-Souls were created, it was decided that the experiment should be aborted, and all Mod-Souls were destroyed. However, Kon was lucky and got between the normal Gikongan, which is how he survived the destruction of the Modified Souls.
In this way, he ended up in a Gikongan donor model Yuki and, as a result, in Ichigo’s hands. He enjoyed his freedom with Ichigo’s body but was soon challenged by it. When Ichigo learns that Kon is destined to die again on the day he was born, as soon as he is found, he takes pity on him and gets Kon a plush body in the shape of a lion. Ichigo decides to give him a name that is part of the name for the Mod Souls, Kaizō Konpaku. At first, Ichigo wanted to call him Kai but decided against it and chose Kon because Kai sounded too cool. And this is how he ended up with Ichigo.
In the main timeline, Kon first appears in the Substitute Shinigami Saga. It is taken from a Gikongan dispenser by Rukia and Ichigo and swallowed by Ichigo so that he can carry out his Shinigami duties while Kon sits at school. However, Ichigo and Rukia thought that Kon was a normal Gikongan.
However, since he is a Modified Soul oul and therefore has his own personality, he initially caused some difficulties for the two. Kon actually broke free initially and used Ichigo’s body to cause mischief, so when he was caught, he was almost handed over back to the Shinigami, who would have destroyed him, but, as we’ve said, Ichigo and Rukia took pity on him, and the rest is history.
Kon was at Ichigo’s side on many occasions. He lived in his house and went on adventures with his friends; he would often act as the real Ichigo as well when the real Shinigami had to leave abruptly, so Kon was used as a replacement for the real Ichigo. Over time, he grew fond of Rukia and Orihime and was very distressed when the former was taken back to Soul Society.
He had some more screen time in the anime’s filler arcs, especially the Gotei 13 Invading Army Arc, which was basically his arc, but it cannot be denied that as the plot progressed, Kon was less and less present in the story. He became the mascot of Bleach, but regardless of that, Kubo used him less often.
During the events of Fake Karakura, Kon was grabbed by Maruyi’s 12th Division and was taken in by them, as they experimented on him and even gave him a much stronger body. The weird thing is that nobody seemed to notice he was gone. He reappeared during the Quincy Blood War and was by Ichigo’s side during some moments, although his role never increased in the series. Still, we can confirm that he survived as he was seen in the “NO BREATHS FROM HELL” one-shot, playing with Kazui Kurosaki, Ichigo’s and Orihime’s son.
