Blue Exorcist: What Are Necrophagers? How Powerful Are They?

After many years, the third season of Blue Exorcist is finally back, and as we are covering the series, we have decided to talk about some characters and events from the series. This article will be dedicated to a character that appeared recently in the series, and we will tell you everything you need to know about this species of demon. The demons in question are Necrophagers, very bizarre creatures whose story in the manga is actually related to the much-despised Michael Gedoin. This article will tell you all you need to know about the Necrophagers, as well as how powerful they are in the series.
The Necrophagers are known for eating corpses
There are numerous interesting characters in Blue Exorcist; we can confirm that. Some of them are humans, and some are demons or other demonic entities, but regardless of the group, their characters are certainly intriguing. In this article, we are going to talk about, as we have said, a specific species of demons who are known as the Necrophagers and who are, without a doubt, among the more bizarre creatures from the series, despite the fact that the series indeed does have a lot of bizarre creatures.
So, the Necrophagers are demons of unknown Kin, which is somewhat strange, as the series has so far been up-to-date with providing us with precise information about its creatures. But, maybe there’s a point to the Necrophagers being so enigmatic, although we’ll obviously have to wait until we find that out. This is not that relevant, though. What interests us is what they are and what their main trait is.
As their name suggests (it is derived from the Greek language), Necrophagers feed on dead bodies, mostly human corpses, which they prioritize over living bodies. They are even known to attack zombies over living humans. Still, the Necrophagers will attack and consume living people, but only if there’s nothing dead around. This is their main trait and it seems that all their power comes from the consumption of corpses, which seems to be the primary focus of this species of demons.
The Necrophagers target humans, i.e., they possess humans and when they do it, they turn the host into a bizarre creature that has only a remnant of the original form. Aside from the change in shape, the lower jaw also gets bizarrely deformer and becomes quite monstrous in appearance, but seeing how these guys feed on corpses, having such a mouth actually makes sense. The most famous example when a Necrophager possessed a human is when Michael Gedoin, the morbid scientist of the Illuminati, was possessed by one and turned into a horrid creature. This was because Gedoin used a Savior Mask on himself.
Now that we have given you the basic information, let us talk about the powers of these creatures.
They are mid-tier Demons in Blue Exorcist
As far as the power of these creatures is concerned, we can actually confirm that the Necrophagers are mid-tier Demons, which means that they can get quite dangerous and tough, but that they are not the strongest demons in the series. As for their powers and abilities, the series hasn’t revealed much about them and it seems, somewhat, that they don’t even have any specific powers and abilities, but are simply stronger the more they eat.
The series has not, indeed, revealed any specific power they have, but due to their size and the physical power they possess, they are still tricky opponents, which is why we are actually talking about them.
Sadly, what seems to be their main trait is the fact that they are bizarre. Save for the fact that they eat corpses, they don’t seem to have any specific trait, and while that seems to be enough as far as the Necrophagers are concerned, we would have loved to see a bit more.
