Marvel Studios’ latest blockbuster, ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ is holding strong in its second weekend. The superhero film is expected to earn more than $30 million, keeping its spot on premium screens, including IMAX. Despite a drop from its impressive debut, the movie remains the top choice for audiences.

The film, led by Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, had a strong opening, pulling in $100 million over the four-day weekend. Even with a B- CinemaScore, which can sometimes signal a steep decline in earnings, the movie is performing better than some recent Marvel releases.

Comparisons have been drawn to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which saw a 70% drop in its second weekend. Fans and industry experts are eager to see if Brave New World can maintain a better hold.

By February 18, 2025, Captain America: Brave New World had made $106.3 million in the U.S. and Canada and $98.3 million in other countries, totaling $204.6 million worldwide. However, the movie needs to earn $425 million to cover its costs, including its $180 million budget and marketing expenses.

Meanwhile, the horror film The Monkey, based on a story by Stephen King and directed by Oz Perkins, is also making waves. Starring Theo James and Tatiana Maslany, the eerie thriller is expected to bring in around $17 million across 3,200 theaters.

The film has gained massive attention, with its trailer hitting 109 million views—an impressive feat for an independent horror movie. Clever marketing strategies, including a church premiere and eye-catching monkey statues in theater lobbies, have helped build excitement.

Other films in theaters include The Unbreakable Boy, a faith-based drama from Lionsgate. The film, starring Zachary Levi and Meghann Fahy, tells the inspiring true story of a young boy with autism and brittle bone disease. With a limited release in 1,700 theaters, it is expected to bring in a smaller but steady audience.

As of now, the domestic box office remains strong, reaching nearly $896 million for the year so far. With several major films on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be a solid year for movie theaters. Whether audiences prefer superhero action or spine-chilling horror, there is something for everyone on the big screen
