Charizard vs. Greymon: Who Would Win in This Pokémon/Digimon Fight?
Digimon and Pokémon are one of the most popular gaming and anime franchises of all time. Of course, they are quite similar if you look at them closely – still, the franchises are their own separate thing which is discussed among the fans. However, both franchises have animal-like creatures used for collecting or combat, but most of the time, Digimon and Pokémon are treated like real-world animals. This article will pit two notable creatures against each other, Pokémon Charizard and Digimon Greymon, and see which one would win in the battle of two famous Japanese franchises.
Greymon is bigger than Charizard
When it comes to size with Pokémon and Digimon, there are various sizes present for each creature. In the beginning, Pokémon never looked insanely big unless it was Snorlax or something else, but overall, Pokémon are quite small, especially the ones with base evolution. Charizard isn’t a base evolution but a third and final evolution of Charmander. Charizard is 1.7 meters high and weighs over 90 kilos, which makes it quite big if you compare it to other Pokémon.
On the other hand, Digimon can be any size, and there are no established rules in the franchise. However, the In-Training and Rookie forms, Koromon and Agumon, can be easily compared to Pokémon, but Champion evolution Digimon like Greymon is massive in size.
In the ‘Digimon Adventure’ and other Digimon anime, Greymon is massive and takes over height from his “cousins” dinosaurs. Taichi looks small next to Greymon, and that difference only goes further in ‘Digimon Adventure’ from 2020, where Greymon is even bigger. Because of that, Greymon would have a massive advantage over Charizard regarding size, which we cannot overlook in this battle.
Greymon takes the first point in this battle.

Greymon is also a lot stronger
Strength is usually measured in the weight an individual can lift or move. We will start with Charizard. We did establish that Pokémon are generally smaller than Digimon, especially third evolutions. Of course, the size doesn’t dictate the strength of the Pokémon or Digimon, which applies to these franchises.
Some forums suggest that Charizard can lift at least heavy boulders since it has a strong physique and powerful wings that can take over a thousand feet in the air. We won’t calculate the Newtons or other pressure calculations, but we will mention that Charizard can lift other Pokémon like Blastoise, which actually happened in Pokémon anime.
Blastoise weighs similarly to Charizard, making the Fire-Type Pokémon quite strong. When it comes to Greymon, its size helps it a lot when it comes to brute force and strength. In the ‘Digimon Adventure’ anime, Greymon is destroying buildings, other Digimon, and boulders that weigh tons.
Of course, the reinforced parts of its head and dinosaur-type physique would prevail in this fight despite Charizard being a Dragon-type Pokémon. In the end, brute strength and physique give the advantage to Greymon, and Charizard just can’t deal with those factors. Greymon takes the point here as well.

Charizard is faster
We all know that Charizard can fly and can fly really high. Despite its Fire Power being the main “weapon” against the opponents, Charizard benefits greatly from flying over its enemies and making it hard to deal devastating blows. Combining the Flying ability with Fire Blast, Charizard becomes one of the most difficult opponents.
We mentioned Greymon being a dinosaur-inspired Digimon with a reinforced head and strong body that can crush anything. Unfortunately for Greymon, it cannot fly at all, and if it could, Greymon would need to have massive wings to carry all of its weight and size. For that, Charizard takes the point in the mobility section.

Greymon has devastating abilities
The powers and abilities of these two creatures/monsters are quite similar. Both Charizard and Greymon have Fire attacks, which can be devastating. For example, in Charizard’s biography, the Fire Dragon can melt enormous glaciers, which are challenging to melt. Of course, Pokémon is, first and foremost, a game that requires each Pokémon to have certain movements, and Charizard has a whole “collection” of them.
Besides Blaze, Solar Power, and Flight, Charizard uses its wings for melee fighting like Mega Punch, sharp claws for Slash, Air Slash, and many more. In the anime, Charizard mostly uses Flamethrower and Fire Blast, but its moveset expands over the series to more than a few.
Of course, the Pokémon franchise only added to Charizard’s moveset over the years, so seeing so many abilities at Charizard’s disposal is not surprising. Regarding Greymon, Digimon was not originally a video game like Pokémon, but it slowly developed into a media franchise that included video games.
In Digimon anime, Greymon is versatile in its abilities, but Charizard has more. However, a huge factor in these discussions is that Pokémon and Digimon can dish out those powers consistently and efficiently. Greymon is sentient, like every other Digimon, and even before Taichi becomes its companion, it knows how to fight against its enemies. So Nova Blasts, Fire Wall, and Great Horns Attack are all great abilities that can outmaneuver Charizard.
The fact that Charizard needs to learn and train with its Trainer using its powers in combat gives the edge to Greymon, which already knows how to use them properly.
We could split the points here, but previously mentioned reasons just cannot be overlooked in this battle. Point for Digimon.

Greymon has better evolutions
Evolutions are really important in Digimon and Pokémon. In Charizard’s case, the Dragon Fire-Type Pokémon is the third evolution of Charmander, which evolves from Charmeleon. With more Pokémon games and anime, Charizard gained special evolutions like Mega Evolve. The Mega Stone introduced in Generation VI evolves Charizard into Mega Charizard X. Mega Evolution with Mega Stone Y turns Charizard into Mega Charizard Y.
Another Charizard evolution is introduced in Generation VIII when Trainers acquire Dynamax and apply it to their Pokémon. It essentially makes Pokémon bigger and stronger in size and power. Charizard turns into Gigantamax Charizard.
Greymon has a few forms and evolutions as well:
- Champion Evolution – from Agumon to Greymon,
- Ultimate Evolution – from Greymon to MetalGreymon,
- Mega Evolution – from Agumon to WarGreymon.
- DNA DigiEvolution – WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon to Omnimon.
Over the many seasons of the Digimon series, Digimonsters acquired many evolutions, but the ones listed here are probably the most important in the franchise. What does that mean for the fight with Charizard?
Well, if the creatures Evolve or Digivolve during their battle, Greymon would overwhelmingly defeat Charizard because MetalGreymon and WarGreymon instantly overpower Charizard’s evolutions. Just the size and the power of these DigiEvolutions are insane, and, unfortunately for Pokémon fans, Digimon Greymon would defeat Charizard in most of the fights.
The final and deciding point goes to Greymon.

Charizard vs. Greymon: who wins this epic fight?
In the end, we concluded that this epic battle would go to the side of Digimon. Despite Pokémon being strong in their own way, Digimon Greymon defeats Charizard most of the time in these battles. Yes, Charizard could harm Greymon with its mobility and powerful Fire attacks, but Greymon overwhelms Charizard with its durability and brute strength of its physique and powerful Nova Blasts.
Evolutions of Digimon are generally more impressive than Pokémon, which isn’t something Pokémon should be criticized for. Every series has its established rules, and Digimon made Greymon more powerful than Charizard – at least, in my opinion.
