Could Flula Borg’s Dead Suicide Squad Villain Be Sneaking Back Into ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’
The DC Universe has spent the past few months in a near constant state of set photo mania, with every gym selfie and behind the scenes snapshot getting picked apart for hidden clues. ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ has been especially fun to watch unfold this way, since James Gunn’s cast keeps posting just enough to make fans spiral without actually confirming anything.
That energy is exactly what is fueling the latest bit of speculation making the rounds. The film reunites David Corenswet’s Superman with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor as the two are forced into an uneasy alliance against a much bigger threat, the alien android Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.
The chatter kicked off after Mikaela Hoover, who debuted as Daily Planet reporter Cat Grant in 2025’s ‘Superman,’ posted a new workout photo featuring Edi Gathegi, who is reprising his role as Mister Terrific in the sequel. Standing right alongside them in the same picture was Flula Borg, best known for playing Javelin in 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ a character who did not survive that film.
Because Borg’s character died during Task Force X’s mission years ago, his presence in a training photo tied to the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ cast immediately raised eyebrows among fans wondering whether the actor could somehow be reprising the role. Some reports have noted that while Gunn’s original ‘Task Force X’ film began under the old DCEU banner, elements of that story have since been folded into the current DCU continuity, which is part of why the theory has legs.
Neither DC Studios nor Gunn has said anything about Borg being involved in the upcoming sequel, so for now this remains pure fan speculation built entirely around one photo. There is also the possibility that Borg is simply working out with friends who happen to be actors on a massive production, with no connection to the film at all.
It is worth noting that Gunn has already shown a willingness to shuffle actors into entirely new roles rather than resurrecting old characters outright. Nathan Fillion, for example, appeared in ‘The Suicide Squad’ as a different character before being cast as Guy Gardner in the new universe, which fans have pointed to as a precedent for how Borg could return in some other form even if Javelin himself stays dead.
‘Man of Tomorrow’ is shaping up to be a packed ensemble regardless of how the Borg mystery shakes out, with Isabela Merced back as Hawkgirl and Aaron Pierre joining the cast as John Stewart’s Green Lantern after his run on HBO’s ‘Lanterns.’ The sequel is currently filming ahead of its July 9, 2027 release date, giving fans plenty of time to keep dissecting every new photo that leaks out of the production.
